This is my first news thread so bear with me.
The $99 tablet has arrived. Hewlett-Packard TouchPads are being liquidated--at least at some Canadian retailers, in the wake of HP's announcement yesterday that it is shuttering the WebOS device business.Prices have dropped off a cliff to $99.99 for the 16GB model and $149.99 for the 32GB version, according to a post at PreCentral.net.A quick check at Best Buy in Canada shows TouchPads at these prices. The same can't be said for stateside outlets, however. As of today, Best Buy in the U.S. was showing standard pricing. And anecdotal reports in the U.S. seem to bear this out.Of course, consumers may pause even at these prices: You're buying into a defunct HP hardware platform. That said, there was a very limited production run of the TouchPad and it may have value as a novelty item, right next to an IBM PCjr.
Also confirmed by TechCrunch: http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/19/hp-issues-touchpad-liquidation-order-get-yours-now-for-100/
I might get one. Maybe HP leaving the Hardware field was a good thing.

If you go to hp.com and pick business you can still order it for $99.99. I just did it a few hours ago and the charge went through. You don't even have to give them any business stuff.
Gah! Gotta find my passport!
It should be in effect in the U.S. tomorrow, but call beforehand.
Also according to TC, someone has Honeycomb on it...
DAMN YOU, CANADA AND HP!! Why can't we get the good stuff too?!
:smug:
I'm going to look into this more, for 99 bucks I'd love to have a portable screen to watch tv shows and browse on and such, this better be legit damnit, my hopes are up.
Update: Looks like the SlickDeals forums folks have discovered a way to bring those Canadian prices down south, and are reporting that they will be official in the US on Saturday morning. Hit up the link below for details.
The more research I do, the more I'm not going to sleep tonight and will show up at Best Buy when it opens.

starve for a week, worth the $300 markdown imo
Fuck it, I'm getting one of these NO MATTER WHAT.
Even without any clear future for webOS, 99 dollars is a really fucking good deal on that thing.

if the rumors of having Honeycomb on it is true, I'm getting it. If not, XDA will eat this shit up anyway and it will be on there soon enough
webOS seems a lot smoother and generally more usable, too bad there are about 4 app developers left for it...
Oh boy, if we can get android on this...
I am pretty sure I am going to buy one of these, even though I won't use it often.

Wait, what rumors?
Wait, what rumors?
On the Engadget URL I linked I think. Or TechCrunch.
It's a damn shame to see Web OS suffer like this. I ended up leaving my original Pre recently after having it ignored so much. There's rather crappy port of Gingerbread for it. I'm impressed if they already got Honeycomb on these things.
Fuck, I need to get this.
Any word if it is in stores? I checked the bestbuy page and it says out of stock
Bought one through futureshop, do I win?
^ I must do that!
If only I had 100 dollars right now.
They're out of stock.
EVERYWHERE.

Yeah, dreams are ruined.
Oh god I hate pads but 99$.
Decisions.
Come on BestBuy you clearly have a shit load in the UK as well, drop the prices over here.
I think I shall be keeping an eye on this page http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/1000161200/hp-touchpad-97-tablet-with-webos-16gb-and-wifi.aspx
Where's the UK deals?!
Have a playbook, that I got for free, so I am chill.
God damnit, every single retail electronics store in my city is out of stock already. The fuck.
