I can't help but wonder where he got the beehive. Can you just buy beehives? Is there some kind of online store that sells empty beehives? Did he go out in the woods and get the beehive himself, hoping to god that it didn't have bees in it? The story we aren't seeing is way more interesting than the beehive he set on fire.

Wasps and bees continuously move around and make new nests and abandon old ones, it could also be the left over of an exterminated wasp colony.
