UK pilots embedded with coalition allies' forces have been conducting air strikes over Syria against the Islamic State group, it has emerged.
This is despite UK MPs voting in 2013 against military action in Syria.
About 20 personnel, including three pilots, have been embedded with other coalition nations' forces, including the US and Canada, the BBC understands.
Tory MP John Baron said the personnel should be withdrawn as Parliament "said no to military intervention".
The MoD said personnel embedded with the US, French and Canadian armed forces had been authorised "to participate in coalition operations" and were under those forces' chain of command.
UK pilots are not currently taking part in the region, the MoD said, but ministers would have been aware of their recent role and the Prime Minister's spokeswoman confirmed David Cameron had known.
To be clear, this isn't illegal as military action does not require parliamentary approval in the UK, but it's a pretty well-respected convention to seek a vote and respect it anyway
Wasn't the previous vote against Assad instead of IS?

Yes, it was.
The thing is Smurfy, 2013 was about attacking the Syrian Government headed by Assad; ISIS didn't become a thing until last year, so it's a new enemy.
They're exchange officers. It's pretty standard for exchange officers to go to war with the nation they're embedded in even if their home country is not part of the war.
That's actually how Delta got founded; a US Army officer was embedded in the SAS during the Malayan (or Borneo?) Emergency. Seeing and fighting along side them he went back to the States and founded Delta.

Holy shit that conflict was brutal.
Surely this is a completely non event really. They aren't doing the bombings on behalf of the UK.
I absolutely despise the way us Brits look at things; Everyone is the enemy... Yet WE have invaded nearly every country in the world :v:
MPs are generally idiots anyway, doesn't make it right i know but i'm just saying since i generally can't remember the last time MP's actually did something the public actually wanted.

that's why everyone is the enemy

What I meant was, is that we have the mindset of being invaded all the time... But we invaded ourselves. :v:
I guess Cameron didn't want to embarrass himself with another potential failed vote.
OK so these pilots are UK nationals, but they're flying under an American, French or Canadian flag, using their equipment and markings, acting under those nations' orders.
I don't see the issue here, and I don't see how it could possibly be construed as the UK government has anything to do with this.
