The Waltons are having a bad -- and expensive -- day.
Walmart, the nation's biggest retailer, stunned investors with a disappointing guidance for growth and profit, causing the stock Wednesday to drop 10% to $60.03. The stock drop , which was the biggest in at least a decade, wiped out more than $21 billion in shareholder wealth in an instant.
That drop was bad for anyone who owns shares of Walmart, but the pain was especially focused because the company's ownership is highly concentrated. The top 10 largest owners of Walmart stock, who collectively hold two-thirds of the common shares outstanding, saw $14.7 billion in wealth vanish today, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data from S&P Capital IQ.
Oh, how sad. Those poor Waltons and their 1%er top shareholders.
They'll have to settle for a vacation in their private mansions in Aruba instead of SpaceX trips into orbit.
When will this national nightmare stop?
That being said, for white-collar/etc. stockholders at the bottom end of the chain, 10% loss hurts and that sucks for them.
Time to invest in Walmart?
I work at Walmart. Theres a big sign in the breakroom with the stock price.
It's gone from about $75 since I started to about $63 today. Only getting worse

Maybe when it plummets even more

I think now would be the best time, as stocks are likely to surge around the holiday seasons due to the influx of consumers.
Bought me some Walmart earlier today.

Theres irony in this, but I cant find the words to spell it out.

I suspect it might drop more, it's year had been pretty bad, and doesn't look like it'll get any better.

I only bought a few shares to play around, I'm relatively new to investments. Probably gonna hold on for it for awhile to see where it goes.

Why the hell does Walmart have a stock price sign in their break room when they don't pay their employees enough to buy any stock?

I'm all in on solar stocks right now, as they're on a nice bull run. Blue chips don't have enough volatility for me to make a meaningful profit.
I work at that place and they've got the stock price posted in the breakroom. I've been watching it tumble steadily since we had inventory not too long ago. 78 bucks to 66 practically overnight.

I hear that even Walmart is beginning to struggle now. Wonder how Target's doing?

They can still afford both of those

You can actually set it up to take out part of your paycheck to work towards buying stock.
It's a useful system for stuff like this.
We were totally in line for a $1300 profit share.
We're fucked now. Eight months of work is gone....
I lost five thousand dollars yesterday in a single hour from my portfolio.
Shit's not doing good all around IMO.
Just started at sams club. Good things I started a little after it started going down. MAbye now my paycheck will get me more and it will go back up.

Yeah I have $25 per paycheck go in.

A lot of companies, including wallmart actually offer worker shares.
I blame self checkouts. Every time you pass them half of them are on the Pay screen because the guy before you rung it all up then ran out the door without paying. Wal Mart loss prevention not even allowed to stop them. And they're right by the doors, too
Wow, I'm glad I didn't invest in Walmart.

I'm sorry

The one I work at proudly displays the profits that we made in a year. So we all know they could be paying us more but aren't.

Why can't they stop them?

I know nothing about the stock market, but wouldn't you gain that back once the shares go up again?
Why can't they stop them?
Loss prevention aren't allowed to touch customers since they're not am actual police force.

Everyone always forgets if they'll go back up, and even if they do, it might be years before it returns to its peak real value. And by holding on to them instead of another share, the shareholder might be forgoing higher price growth and dividends.

Plus, the anti-theft thing the closest Walmart to me uses has soooo so many false positives. Wouldn't be hard to imagine it's the same at other stores and whoever the attendant is just goes "oh, another false positive, whatever".
