• The DEA finally admits marjiuana is safer than heroin
It's official: the U.S. government's top drug cop has acknowledged that marijuana is less dangerous than heroin. At a meeting with reporters yesterday at the headquarters of the Drug Enforcement Administration, acting chief Chuck Rosenberg said that "heroin is clearly more dangerous than marijuana," Matt Ferner of the Huffington Post reports. This clarifies a statement he made last week, when he told reporters that marijuana was "probably not" as dangerous as heroin, adding "I'm not an expert." This shouldn't be news. Researchers have known for decades that marijuana is a much safer substance than heroin -- and nearly all other psychoactive drugs, for that matter. Heroin overdoses kill thousands of people each year, while marijuana has no known toxic dose. It's considerably less habit-forming than heroin, alcohol, nicotine and other drugs. And medical marijuana treatments hold a lot of potential -- particularly as an alternative to dangerous prescription painkillers. As far back as 1972, a federal report commissioned by President Richard Nixon recommended that marijuana use and possession be decriminalized, arguing that "neither the marihuana [sic] user nor the drug itself can be said to constitute a danger to public safety."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonkblog/wp/2015/08/06/better-late-than-never-the-dea-admits-that-marijuana-is-safer-than-heroin/?postshare=8491438882695924
My uncle died of weed snorting and marijuana injections
headquarters of the Drug Enforcement Administration, acting chief Chuck Rosenberg said that* * "I'm not an expert."
the irony though
Ugh, the DEA are fucking stupid
My uncle died of weed snorting and marijuana injections the irony though
To be fair, he's the chief of the DEA. He's not the one making the laws, his job is to keep the DEA organized to enforce those laws. Still fucking stupid though.
Ugh, the DEA are fucking stupid
Probably more like corrupt a shit. I'm not fixing that.
To be fair, he's the chief of the DEA. He's not the one making the laws, his job is to keep the DEA organized to enforce those laws. Still fucking stupid though.
no as chief of the DEA he should be very much informed and knowledgeable of his 'enemy' in the war on drugs
no as chief of the DEA he should be very much informed and knowledgeable of his 'enemy' in the war on drugs
he probably knows. doesn't mean he's going to tell the truth
I love when DEA Chiefs say "I'm not an expert on the subject". THEN WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU THE CHIEF OF THE DEA
Top drug cop: "I'm not an expert" How did he get to this position? [editline]6th August 2015[/editline] Hah that teaches me to not read ^
still dangerous enough to get shot in the back.
Give them twenty years more and they might finally admit that marijuana is more or less as dangerous as alcohol.
Pretty sure he means legal expert, as in he's not a scientist.
Being stabbed in the arm is less dangerous than being shot in the head. So what?
Saying that marijuana is 'probably not' more dangerous than heroin is like saying a small, affectionate kitten is 'probably not' as dangerous as a starving, rabid dog. It's a bullshit statement.
No fucking shit huh? Holy fuck, this world of ours...
Being stabbed in the arm is less dangerous than being shot in the head. So what?
What an inept comparison
One drug has a pile of corpses attributed to it's direct effects. One drug has none. "Ehh, probably less dangerous I don't know tho"
One day you're injecting marijuana, and if you're not dead already, the next day you're injecting heroin. It's the ~gateway drug~ man. Extremely addicting and clearly very dangerous.
Drug enforcement is a huge industry. It is a very lucrative enterprise. As such, this is a very significant statement. These people aren't stupid, he knows pot is harmless, but you have to realize that it's in their best interests for him to never say anything like this. One less drug to enforce is one less revenue stream, and saying shit like this is the first step to changing policy. Okay so you admit one is clearly more dangerous than the other, then why are they scheduled the same? This now becomes a legitimate question, and leads to a line of questioning that eventually ends in marijuana decriminalization. It needs to and will happen eventually, but I also know there will be a shit ton of money from lobbyists fighting it tooth and nail for the foreseeable future, so the fact that he even said something like this to the media is either a sign that he's incompetent and fucking up, or maybe they know change is inevitable and he's trying to transition smoothly

The world we live in can be so strange and unfair sometimes.
Ugh, the DEA are fucking stupid
You can blame Reagan and DARE for that. The problem is that the people in charge consider it a business. Just like how prisons are now a business. All of government is a business these days, and as any corporate apologist idiot on the internet will tell you these days, "BUSINESSES EXIST TO MAKE MONEY." Y'know, when they should be treating these things as what they actually are - namely divisions of @#$!ing government where the goal is instead to help your citizens instead of LOOKING AT THE BOTTOM LIAAAAAAARGH Screw capitalism.
This post makes me wish boxes were a thing in SH... Almost. Obama ought to fire this guy on executive order, if need be, I don't know how it works.
Obama is the one that appointed him, if I remember correctly.
This post makes me wish boxes were a thing in SH... Almost. Obama ought to fire this guy on executive order, if need be, I don't know how it works.
I think firing him is the opposite reaction one should have, he's clearly not a dolt. He is the top DEA officer not standing by the idea that weed is as bad as heroin. That's a pretty big deal, considering weed is scheduled right next to heroin and has been looked upon by the DEA as some sort of horrible drug for a long time. This is like the CEO of McDonald's admitting their burgers aren't exactly healthy; it's his job to enforce the laws, obviously you'd try to avoid losing credibility for your organization in the same way if you were in their shoes. [editline]7th August 2015[/editline] Doesn't make it any less dumb that officers have to defend the idea that marijuana is a substance of considerable danger whilst a portion of our nation uses it regularly, though.
