The band originates from Manchester and includes former Oasis pianist Mike Rowe, drummer Jeremy Stacey of The Lemon Trees and percussionist Lenny Castro. The band also varies guests on their debut album such as the Crouch End Festival Chorus and The Wired Strings. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is the self-titled debut album released on 17 October 2011. High Flying Birds was recorded between 2010 and 2011 in London and Los Angeles, produced by Gallagher and former Oasis producer Dave Sardy. The track listing includes "Stop the Clocks", which is the unreleased Oasis track of that name.[SUP][2][/SUP] On 20 July 2011, "The Death of You and Me" was confirmed as the lead single. The BBC review praised Gallagher for continuing the proven formula of songwriting he adopted in Oasis, describing the album as an "enjoyable record". Writing for The Daily Telegraph, critic Neil McCormick awarded the album the highest rating possible, claiming that "High Flying Birds is the best collection of [Noel] Gallagher tunes since his Morning Glory days", referring to the extremely high-selling 1995 Oasis album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? as a benchmark for the album. Never really listened to any of his songs until now and I really like them, thanks :)
It'll be good. Much better than the Beady Eye.
Great, just what we needed. Another band spawned from the ashes of Oasis that sounds exactly like Oasis.
I'm listening to the album right now, and I like it a lot so far.
Great, just what we needed. Another band spawned from the ashes of Oasis that sounds exactly like Oasis.
this doesn't really sound very much like oasis at all... oasis was a straight up rock band. it was guitars and drums and nothing else. some of it sounds a little like the noel-written b-sides on the masterplan but other than that this is completely different. unlike beady eye.
Great, just what we needed. Another band spawned from the ashes of Oasis that sounds exactly like Oasis.
Uhh... it's just him I think.
Uhh... it's just him I think.
and former oasis pianist mike rowe, and former oasis producer dave sardy
and former oasis pianist mike rowe, and former oasis producer dave sardy
Yeah, totally not like Oasis.
Yeah, totally not like Oasis.
Well most of Oasis' work was written by Noel so what are you whining about? If you hear a Roger Waters or David Gilmour album you can't just go, "OH IT'S JUST LIKE PINK FLOYD, WHO CARES"
Yeah, totally not like Oasis.
but it doesn't sound anything like oasis regardless... have you even listened to the album?
verdict?
mine? it's really grown on me. there's some beautiful tracks in there. like a lot albums though it kinda trails off and gets worse after the half-way point. if i had a gun is a superb track. really touching. my only real complaint is the LOUUUUDDDNESSSSS. there's so many "anthems" on here that it's kinda fatiguing to listen to. there's a few quieter, more relaxing tracks but there's a lot of heavy stuff here that might be a bit overbearing anyone who says that it sounds exactly like oasis has either not listened to the album or has not listened to oasis. one of the few tracks that sounds like oasis is stop the clocks... and that track was written while oasis were still together so it's not surprising. lyrically it's very similar to oasis and perhaps in the vocal melodies. you know why? cos noel wrote everything for oasis. noel gallagher was oasis. the reason beady eye sounds like oasis? because liam is copying his brother because he doesn't know how to do anything else. most of the album is more like baroque pop than any type of alternative rock - there's so much brass, piano and choirs that there's no way i can compare it to oasis with any real conviction overall i definitely recommend it
Could be the the compression they gave it which ruined the sound. Look up a video called "Loudness War". Maybe it'll sound better on LP.
yeh i know about the loudness war vaguely, that's kinda what i was eluding to. i was tempted to buy the lp today actually but managed to save my wallet the trauma
Fucking brilliant album, my biggest complaint is the B-side "Alone on the Rope" isn't on the album, but I guess that's how you know noel's fucking back if some of the best songs aren't even on the album (just look at the song "The Masterplan") Can honestly say its better than anything Oasis related since "Be Here Now" - and the first Oasis related album at all that doesn't have songs i skip on it.
is alone on the rope the really folk-style song? i love that
Very soothing sounding, however I do think the production is "Louder" than it needs to be.
