• Serious problems falling asleep

Hey guys, starting from this Monday I've had problems falling asleep. I went to bed at 09:30 PM because I felt shitty. I woke up at 00:30 AM and couldn't fall asleep after that, my head was just racing and I semi slept (or so I think) till 05:00 AM. I've never had insomnia before and this is completely new to me. I recently got sick and I cough a lot, maybe that's what disturbs my sleep? I don't know. The weird thing is that I don't feel that tired when I go up in the morning. Now Doctor Facepunch, please help me go back to my normal sleeping pattern.
Just try to sleep at your normal times, you'll hit right back into it after a few days.
Sometimes you just can't sleep. It happens. I suggest reading articles on wikipedia until you feel tired.
sleeping pill?
I'd rather not use drugs to fall asleep. I have no experience with them, but why use drugs when I can solve the problem without them.
Usually when I get a cough its hard for me to go to sleep, even when I am not coughing and trying to go to sleep at the same time while actually being sick due to a cough, I still wont fall asleep.
Spending time on the computer does stuff to your eyes and brain, and it takes a long time to wind down from it. a few hours before you want to sleep, get off the comp

Use the tried and true cure for jetlag: force yourself to stay awake until the time when you normally fall asleep.

Try antihistamines. They give the most natural sense of tiredness. If you still don't want to, then masturbate. Seriously, it really helps make you tired. I get drained after I fap.
If you can't sleep, do something else. Play some video games (Best if you have a iPhone, DS, PSP etc.), don't "try" to fall asleep again. It should come naturally.

I heard that jerkin' off when you're sick can ease the effects of a cold.

Visit some clinics on testicular cancer and group meditation to get you to sleep easy. Hey, it works for some people.
FYI, It's been two days and I don't even feel tried after these nights. It's just plain annoying not being able to sleep and relax
You should try Sleepytime Extra herbal supplement tea. It doesn't get you as drowsy as Nyquil would, but it gets me to sleep when I need to. I find that it tastes really good too. It's also okay to put a few teaspoons of sugar. It doesn't seem to affect the effects of the tea.
How are your dietary habits? Have you had a heavy load of homework recently (i.e. are you feeling a bit stressed)?
You have a mild form of Insomnia, you need to relax your mind before falling asleep. A combination of going to bed early along with not feeling well often results in waking up at an ungodly hour, with a resulting high level of thought that keeps you from falling asleep. In other words, relax by listening to calming music then go to sleep, try not to think about anything.

No daytime consequences (fatigue, desire to nap, impaired judgement, etc). Just sounds like regular old disturbed sleep. His sleep rhythm will probably return to normal in a few days. In general they can disrupt the biology of sleep and don't really address the root causes of the sleep disorder.
Thanks guys. I'll try to go to bed a little later tonight and try to relax an hour before going to bed.

I normally get this during holidays and such, I suggest you exercise during the day, or if your too lazy, dont sleep for a night then the next day you'll instantly just fall asleep without realising it. Whenever I can't fall asleep I pick some drone/ambient/calm music and meditate until I feel tired. Usually your body will chill down when you meditate and while basically fall asleep, and your mind will quickly follow if you let it.

Try to force yourself to stay awake, but then you fall asleep. Trust me, it works. Either that or fap
Basically don't use sleeping pills because when you wake up you'll still feel as tired as you did the night before. I also have trouble sleeping and I find that reading a book about half an hour before I go to sleep helps me not wake up in the middle of the night However if I do wake up I just turn on my lava lamp and stare at it till either I fall asleep or realise im not getting back to sleep at all.
Do some sport. That makes you tired pretty well
Work out in the day, do some jogging or something. Always helps me get a good nights sleep.
What I found is that if you can't get to sleep because your mind is still going, you can bash your eyes against the top of your eye sockets repeatedly until you fall asleep, works like a charm for me. I guess it makes you focus on moving your eyes up and down, and for me it sort of simulates that feeling of being really sleepy. Give it a try and see if that works.
