Three decades ago, a previous inquiry had similarly subpoenaed Montreal Mafia bosses Vic Cotroni and Paolo Violi. Neither said much on the stand and they were each sentenced to one year in prison for failing to co-operate. Mr. Rizzuto has been referenced repeatedly during testimony at the inquiry chaired by Madam Justice France Charbonneau, with former construction boss Lino Zambito testifying that members of his Montreal Mafia received a 2.5-per-cent cut on city contracts. RCMP surveillance video played at the inquiry showed some construction entrepreneurs bringing cash either to Mr. Rizzuto’s father, Nicolo Rizzuto, or to Mr. Rizzuto’s brother-in law, Paolo Renda. And city engineer Luc Leclerc, who admits to collecting at least $500,000 in bribes from construction bosses, testified that he took part in a 1995 golf vacation in the Dominican Republic with Mr. Rizzuto, whom he called “a great guy, an excellent travel companion, a good golfer.” Mr. Rizzuto has kept a low profile since he returned to Canada last month after serving a sentence in the United States for his role in a Mafia triple murder in Brooklyn. While Mr. Rizzuto was in prison, his father and one of his sons were killed and many of his top associates were murdered or disappeared. The inquiry has also subpoenaed Raynald Desjardins, whom court and parole-board documents allege is a mobster who was once a close associate of Mr. Rizzuto. Mr. Desjardins – who has been charged for murder following the slaying of Salvatore Montagna, a mobster who tried to take over the Montreal Mafia – is trying to quash the inquiry summons, arguing that it would jeopardize his right to a fair trial.
source I'm willing to bet on him not telling the truth..

canadian mafia, lmao
Gonna make you an offer you can't refuse, eh?
canadian mafia, lmao
Wasn't there some retired hitman a few months ago who said to the press that the mafia in Montreal was one of the biggest nowadays?
Wasn't there some retired hitman a few months ago who said to the press that the mafia in Montreal was one of the biggest nowadays?
Not exactly the most reliable source in the world, eh?
Not exactly the most reliable source in the world, eh?
Could be pretty reliable, you obviously want to know about who you work for, and other competitors
Wasn't there some retired hitman a few months ago who said to the press that the mafia in Montreal was one of the biggest nowadays?
That was like last week.
Not exactly the most reliable source in the world, eh?
Mafia hitmen do tend to be pretty reliable.
Mafia hitmen do tend to be pretty reliable.
Much more reliable than Cafe hitmen or IKEA hitmen, that's for sure.
Gonna make you an offer you can't refuse, eh?
Forget aboot it
Gonna make you an offer you can't refuse, eh?
Actually, you can refuse if you want to. I don't want you to feel forced.
I had no idea we had a mafia
I had no idea we had a mafia
Don't worry I already put a hit out on you.
There's been a lot of mafia related murders lately too in Montreal, so that's going to be interesting to watch him just deny everything.
canadian mafia, lmao
Considering that the AMERICAN mafia, all across the east coast are afraid of these guys, you might want to shut up
Makes me legitimately wonder if they have the Mounties in their pocket? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Makes me legitimately wonder if they have the Mounties in their pocket? Correct me if I'm wrong.
They don't, but RCMP actually has to follow the rule of law which is mafia is so effective if you can hide everything illegal.
Yeah, you really should not fuck with the Mafia over here. Heck, just a few weeks ago there were some molotov cocktails thrown at the cafe on my street corner and also another one a few streets back. The worst part is it isn't the first time it's happened to italian cafes and that's just the mafia. There is also many remnants of the old Hells Angels generation that have emptied a few bars of there money and booze, I have a few older folk still related to the Rizzutos on my street and a few businesses that haven't had a client in 10 years but have 6 to 10 employees if that isn't enough of a sign. Corruption is very present but also very good at hiding in Montreal. I'm honestly scared that the current and very inefficient police will never really get rid of it.
The Italian and the Irish mafia here aren't the typical "You talkin' to me?"? kind of guys you'd expect. They're very low profile and the Italian mafia in particular is well known for infiltration and bribery, as said here, they(the Italians) control the construction industry in Quebec. As for the Irish Mafia, I know the leader doesn't drive around in some super expensive bullet proof car. Just one you'd expect from anyone really.

How come I've never heard of the Canadian Mafia till now?
Considering that the AMERICAN mafia, all across the east coast are afraid of these guys, you might want to shut up
And how bad is the Canadian Mafia if they got the American Mafia scared?
canadian mafia, lmao
laserbeams was never heard from again
Makes me legitimately wonder if they have the Mounties in their pocket?
Suddenly got the mental image of some Mafioso throwing an RCMP cavalry charge out of his pocket
Jeez, I never heard about any of this at all. How come I've never heard of the Canadian Mafia till now? And how bad is the Canadian Mafia if they got the American Mafia scared?
Because Mob's and Mafias are supposed to be quiet, underground things that are well hidden and very profitable for criminals. They can't do this publicly so that's why you don't hear about it. They also make a killing with the eastern drug trade so they have no shortage of cash and no shortage of pockets to put that cash into. They're bad. The boston mafia as well as the remainder of the new york mafia are not fucking with the montreal mafia at all for a reason.
no, most italian mobs here in montreal are loosing influence even tough they do control the construction industry, it sure isn't what it used to be.
no, most italian mobs here in montreal are loosing influence even tough they do control the construction industry, it sure isn't what it used to be.
Do you guys have anything like RICO over there? Because that's basically what killed off most organized crime here, it was pretty effective. Although it seems a lot of the crook types just jumped ship and are now politicians or lawyers or whatever they could do to make as much dirty money in a legal capacity and be even more untouchable.
Vito Rizzuto received a summons
His name is even Vito? I bet he really hates the Godfather. Always having to live in that fictional character's shadow, knowing constantly your henchmen make Don Vito jokes behind your back, and the simple fact he's just the Canadian Mafia.
