I don't think I've ever seen so much text in a Valve news post.
Well, they don't post updates often, but when they do...
:aaaaa:
for some reason I can't see any embedded news articles :(
I have a strong feeling that Gabe himself wrote this.

This is really cool and I'm glad they're doing as much as possible to not make a bad impression on the newest addition to the fanbase.
I am just curious when they'll add OpenGL support for Windows users, because I'd much prefer to use that over Direct X.

I would love to see more of these kinds of posts from Valve every time they do a tech update.
That's one heck of a detailed update

This, it's far more optimised than Direct X.
interestingly this is actually about an update for mac OSX itself, not the source engine or any of Valve's games. the fact that they've convinced apple to do this is pretty impressive. perhaps it means that apple is finally starting to take gaming seriously.
Nice wall of text Valve, good explanation.
Thank you valve! I had just experienced crashes from map loading last night, so this is useful. Id also like the ability to "adjust" graphics settings like you do on PC.
You can adjust PC dx90 too dx81. Id like that ability for steam for mac.
You want to adjust DirectX levels on Mac OS X?

You dont understand me at all, obviously.
I meant an equivalent. Crossovers let you do it. and the game ran faster when you did.
As in, DX90 too dx81, mac equivalent.
Also, If you actually had a mac, You'd notice the models have .dx80 files, as well as Dx90 files. the source engine for mac is the same as PC, basically.
I want the command for adjusting graphic filter, that is similar too dx90 to dx81.
now do you understand?

So you want them to implement an overall graphics setting, where you can disable some OpenGL settings and shaders to improve performance? Seems reasonable, but I thought Valve already did this automatically on Mac.

Thank you. That's what I mean though, I dont know the command. So I wouldnt know if they did.
Might have to try that No-Phong Pack on fpsbanana. heard that works.
