Target Officially Rejects Assault Weapons in Its Stores
A month after images first surfaced of pro-gun activists flaunting semiautomatic rifles at Target stores, the retailer has become the latest US company to officially reject firearms in its outlets.
"Our approach has always been to follow local laws, and of course, we will continue to do so," Target said in a statement Wednesday. "But starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target—even in communities where it is permitted by law."
The move follows weeks of pressure from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, which used social media, online petitions, and protests at Target stores to call for such a change.
Still reeling from its disastrous failure to secure customers' personal data, Target leaders "were really nervous" after the gun issue emerged, a person with direct knowledge of the company's discussions about it told me. "This was the last thing they needed." Still, the company endured weeks of negative attention on the issue, even as Texas authorities and one of Target's corporate strategic partners made clear that Target was trying to stop the guns from coming in.
Target joins a growing list of corporations—including Starbucks, Jack in the Box, Chipotle, Sonic, and Chili's—that have reacted to demonstrations by open-carry activists by announcing that they don't want people carrying guns on their premises.
It's hard not to aim a gun at a Target
like that guy pictured has a cat
this will only attract more protesters
everybody knows if you're going to be a gun nut with a cat, you at least have to get something with a built in laser

No not normally, as in on a regular basis but yes they can.
I find it hilarious how these pro-gun activists are continuing to do open carry protests in big name stores even though all it is doing is making more and more big name stores reject people from carrying guns into their stores.

Yeah they also start shooting people, and steal from the cash register.
These morons do nothing but make themselves look like dicks and gives the rest of the community a bad name.

Not an assault rifle. ARs are select fire, the average citizen can only obtain a semi-automatic unless they get a Class III license. Regardless of technicalities this isn't uncommon at all. Gun owners will 'protest' for their right to own weapons by openly carrying them in public. It's completely legal and the vast majority of the time they don't bother anyone. I've personally seen a guy with an AR-15 on his back walking around Walmart like it was normal, and no one really paid him much mind.
It's just dumb people being spergs ruining it for others.
Why you would need to bring a gun to a shop in the first place?

You don't, most people just have C&C/CHL permits and carry everywhere. But there is no reason to open carry a fucking long rifle into a store. Specially Target of all stores...
I hate these open carry protesting idiots, all they're doing is making gun owners look bad. They don't even need to protest, no one is going to take away their fucking guns.

B..but muh freedom
God damn it, these retarded fucking open carry activists are ruining everything.
Don't open carry a rifle you fucking idiots. Open carry a goddamn pistol. The point of open carry is self defense you're not gonna whip up a fucking AR-15 if you're getting mugged to stop it the ONLY thing you're doing is pissing off everything like neckbeard autists.
I like guns as much as the next american, but its pretty ridiculous to think you need to be walking around with anything bigger than a handgun.
I hate people who open carry shit like this. They make the gun community look terrible.

No they can, but only asshats do for attention.
That's purely all it is.
generally most people who own guns will ask if it's okay they bring their side arm in or the like.
Wtf is an assault weapon??? I mean seriously???
Wtf is an assault weapon??? I mean seriously???
As stated in every fucking thread on the subject, a made-up term for semi-autos to make them sound like they're full-autos.
It doesn't really do anything. They're asking folks to not bring guns into their stores. They're not banning them or putting up signs that day "no fire arms allowed". In Minnesota it doesn't even matter if the store puts a sign up, unless an employee asks you to put your gun back in your car they can't just call the cops or arrest you unless you refuse to do so.
They did this more or less to appeal to soccer moms without actually changing any policy.
Can't a man shop for cat toys in peace in this country?
What if three colored folk suddenly tried to assault this man in the middle of Target and he didn't have his M4 with a bayonet on him?
You're welcome, America, because that man is protecting you (nay, us) from the constant guerilla warfare battlezone that is U.S. shopping centers.
To elaborate; the term originates from 'assault rifle' which in itself originates, like all good words, from german, 'sturmgewehr' from 1944, to describe the StG-44 (Fuck you and your mother's dog if you call it the MP-44). Sturmgewehr means storm rifle. Storm, as in, 'to take a position with storm', a military assault. Anglofied into 'assault rifle'. Fast-forwards 50 years to 1994, where the anti-gun fires are burning and the engines are hot and we're down in the valley tonight. In an absolutely inefficient, nonsensical move to limit gun-violence, a hastily-drafted 'assault-weapons ban' is scribbled down on a KFC-napkin somewhere, banning arbitrary features often found on actual assault rifles, features they often have, but does not define the class (Automatic fire defines it). This passes because law is, as we all know, about feel-good and not do-good. So suddenly, pistol grips, bayonet lugs and folding stocks on full-length rifles are banned, while the much more common on crime scenes sub-400 dollar handguns and revolvers are still floating around. Come 2004, the ban on assault weapons is lifted, but the term sticks, because it sounds evil.
I know one of these retards.
I managed to convince him to not do this stupid shit like the moment he told me, but I shouldn't have had to do it in the first place. He sends me a message talking about how le hilariouse it would be to bring his semi-auto PKM (the dumbest of weapon purchases in my opinion, but whatever) out and about, and I knew right then he was mentally retarded. Seriously these people don't understand that they're actively breeding anti-carry and anti-firearm sentiment in people who normally wouldn't give a shit.
the intention of these open-carry protests are good, that intention being to raise public awareness that someone carrying a gun isn't always a threat, but the problem is social media brought out the retard picnic. Its become like some masturbatory pat on the back competition, like let me take my video camera and film how many people I can make uncomfortable and show the cops how stupid they are! lmao!
Even the NRA has expressed sentiments of these people going to far. Yes you have a right, but unless you're a literal autist, you should understand that openly carrying a rifle is going to make people concerned in the wake of a dramatically increased national coverage on spree shootings. So when the cops inevitably show up to confront you, you don't get to act righteously indignant that they want to know whats going on.
im ok with people owning whatever gun and im alright with them being able to carry a revolver or pistol but fuck being able to just walk around with a rifle or shotgun.
