Not a fan of the look.
they took the cool surreal tone and artstyle and flushed it down the shitter in exchange for simpsons characters with WACKY ANIMATIONS!!!!
Holy shit, what were they THINKING?!
Wait, so is that janky looking stomp suppose to replace the neck snap? That doesn't nearly as smooth and quick as the snap. Actually, all of the animations look worse than first game.
I think I would have been fine with a new Nidhogg sequel if it was pretty much just like the original one but with a level editor and some extra features. [editline]29th September 2016[/editline] I feel like the original game was in desperate need for a level editor considering that there were only 4 stages.
what the hell? the core gameplay looks p good but what were they thinking with that character design?
Contrasting opinion: I don't know what nidhogg is, but I like what this video presents
Perhaps they could fix the multiplayer on their original rather than making this hot turd. Currently to play it you have to sign into the old betas lmao
Not a fan of the looks but the gameplay seems like a good improvement. Nidhogg suffered a lot from a lack of options - once you mastered a few simple moves (dive kick), it was all about who was slightly better at execution. Some more depth will go a long way towards making it a more long-lived game.
Contrasting opinion: I don't know what nidhogg is, but I like what this video presents
It's a 1v1 versus game where you do a sort of tug-o-war with fencing. The gameplay looks good, but people are upset because the simplistic Atari-look and smooth animations were changed to the what you see in the OP.
honestly all that needed to be improved on was the level amount, with maybe a level editor, and better netcode. it didn't really need a sequel, i'd be happy with some dlc.
Youtube bait? The art style makes me think of shitty hyper lets players. HEY GUYS WELCOME BACK TO NIDHOGG PART 89 WHOOOAAOA I JUST STOMPED THAT GUY!!1!
looks like shit. besides, couldn't they just update the first game with more features?
those characters look absolutely retarded but i dont see a big problem with anything else. did everyone just expect it to look exactly the same as the first one? that'd be cheap as hell
Everything except the characters looks really smooth and enjoyable...
The backdrop/set pieces aren't bad but yeah those characters are really unappealing.
those characters look absolutely retarded but i dont see a big problem with anything else. did everyone just expect it to look exactly the same as the first one? that'd be cheap as hell
At the very least i'd expect an artstyle that still matches some of the strange surrealism the first game was going for. The teaser doesn't show much unfortunately, but I can see why people think these wide-eyed goofy dudes don't exactly bring to mind the first game, especially since the players in the first seemed more realistic. Also I think the new style really highlights that they're a bunch of separately animated limbs, which has always had a history of looking odd on characters meant to be living and humanoid.

I don't get it, the one thing the game really had going for itself is the distinctive visual style, why throw it away for this?
Seems like it wouldn't be that bad if the characters were less wacky/random
How do you go from such a cool, simple style to... bad phone game? Like no one who played the original outside of the devs even really looked at this did they? Also, the game being so simple was the thing that made everyone go kinda silent when you played it in groups, did you need to add fucking screaming and stuff?
So many easy ways to improve the game and this is what they went with why
Oh dear.

It's mostly the fighters themselves that are the problem.
While I didn't really like the game (I never played it but I always thought it was way overpriced for the amount of content it offered, the gameplay itself is ok) I've always found fascinating the idea of these two expert swordsmen fighting to decide who can get to be sacrificed. The seriousness of the two expression-less stick figures always made it kinda darkish in my opinion.
I wonder if the mp will actually work in the sequel.
That teaser somewhat reminds me of this:
terrible art style
:nope:
