ICarly
This isn't uncommon. Many autistic kids show amazing intelligence. Heartwarming nonetheless though.

What a cool story, and they seem like a great family.

That was fascinating, thanks for sharing.
I wouldn't call her unimaginably intelligent. I mean, she isn't there solving the mysteries of the universe and coming up with groubreaking theories and discoveries. All i saw her do was type some sentences that were quite beautiful and "wise" if you would call them so. But it's really touching to see her life having improved so much when she learned to type and communicate.
Yeah, she doesn't seem unimaginably intelligent. Perhaps wiser than her peers, but not brilliant.
I think she summed it up pretty well, a normal girl stuck in a retarded body. Not really a big deal or anything new, but nice for her that they found a way to communicate.
Yeah, she doesn't seem unimaginably intelligent. They didn't even consider the fact that she'd have normal levels of intelligence. They're not trying to say she's a genius.
I once did social work with autistic kids. They appear to the untrained eye to be mentally retarded due to their behaviour and look, but then you discover that they can do amazing things like for example memorize whole pages of dictionaries in a relatively short time and recite them word for word even weeks after having last looked at it. And they don't seem to forget a face either, no matter how long it's been.

When they said "She stripped off her clothes and engaged in fecal smearing" I couldn't help but imagine some gruff military officer shouting "FECAL SMEARING ENGAGED"
I hope this helps her recover, now they found a way to get through to the "normal" person inside.
When I heard that she uses Twitter, at first, I was like "That's cool. She can communicate with a lot of people." Then I began to think of all the heartless people out there that troll over the internet, and that she'd probably be a victim of one. It's just sad.
That's awesome. My brother has autism and it's great to see that people accept it a lot more than they used to. (When I saw this thread I was dreading reading it, but apparently mostly all of you aren't horrible.)
GENIUS
Great family and a heartwarming video, I wish her luck in her adult's life and with finding a proper life partner. Most of people are dicks though, hope she meets only few of them throughout her life.

"i want to be inside her body...just 1 day" says her dad
Toronto represent!
"i want to be inside her body...just 1 day" says her dad
I think we all handled that pretty maturely. You, on the other hand, just had to bring it up. [editline]9th July 2012[/editline] Just let your mind be clean, especially in a situation like this.
What I think a lot of people in this thread are missing is the fact that since the dawn of man we have always written off mentally deficient people as useless to society; even if they don't want to admit it. Who knows how many people with conditions like this are just as normal intellectually but are wired up wrong.
Here's an interesting video of her typing
So autistic kids don't behave that way because they are retarded, its because they have over-sensitive sensory inputs? That's like constantly having a torch shone in your eyes, or someone continuously poking you in the arm This has really changed my views on autistic people
"i want to be inside her body...just 1 day" says her dad
you're a terrible person
I'm pretty sure she has someone who sits there and corrects everything she types to have better grammar/spelling/diction/word choice. I remember watching another video (it wasn't the one above, I have yet to see the one above) where everything she wrote was... less than stellar.

Thisight seem cruel, but I am mot going to wait hours just to hear how 4+4 works.
i bet she just plays minecraft all day LOL
