According to a statement issued Friday morning by Mark Adkins, chief of the Alamo Rangers, an Alamo tour guide noticed Perez as he was carving his name into a wall inside an area of the shrine known as the Monks' Burial Room. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

This is not the first time someone is accused of desecrating the Alamo. Several people throughout the years, including rocker Ozzy Osborne, have been accused of urinating on the sacred grounds.
Source: KSAT
its funny that people actually do their with their actual name
Why would your fuck up priceless cultural heritage?
Why would your fuck up priceless cultural heritage?
Apathy, possibly cultural disgust due to his ethnicity.
i remember visiting the alamo when i was younger and there were names fucking everywhere
Sacred grounds?
The Alamo was/is a Catholic mission.
"we will support prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”
Thats a good policy
Sacred grounds?
You're forgetting that it's 'Mericuh, where war is holy :v:
Reminds me of one of the stories I got at one of the really popular sites I once worked at. These people were doing a photo shoot in one of the rooms which we had to close down because there were numerous names etched into the walls, so only guided tours or special groups could get access. At then end of the photo shoot after the group left, one of the Rangers noticed a new name scrawled into the wall. The name was of one of the staff of the photo shoot. The park actually contacted the company and reported the staffmemeber to them, who subsequently got fired.
remember the Alamo (and Julio)
no fucking way it's going to cost 250,000 to fix a keyed wall
no fucking way it's going to cost 250,000 to fix a keyed wall
Its a priceless historical location regardless so Its going to cost more than scratching your name into the stall of a McDonalds crapper
no fucking way it's going to cost 250,000 to fix a keyed wall
Yeah it literally would take me some filler from poundland and 2 minutes, i'd happily be paid 250k for that.
Its a priceless historical location regardless so Its going to cost more than scratching your name into the stall of a McDonalds crapper
where did i imply anything of the sort? just consider that the colosseum gets like 5 million tourists a year and you'll see why i'm skeptical that the alamo got set back a quarter of a million dollars by a few scratches.
The figures for damage and the consequences might be extreme to act as a deterrent. If the worst that happens from you trying to carve your name in the wall is a slap on the wrist then more people might try their luck.

I've heard that they have a law that no building is allowed to cast a shadow on the alamo.
You're forgetting that it's 'Mericuh, where war is holy :v:
Or maybe it's the site of a fucking massacre and without the subsequent outrage stemming from that Texas wouldn't be a US state? [editline]6th September 2015[/editline]
where did i imply anything of the sort? just consider that the colosseum gets like 5 million tourists a year and you'll see why i'm skeptical that the alamo got set back a quarter of a million dollars by a few scratches.
It doesn't have any tangible worth, it's value is entirely social so literally it's worth however much it's said to be worth. If they say some shithead's carving is worth $250k, then it is.
You're forgetting that it's 'Mericuh, where war is holy :v:
Do you know anything at all regarding the Battle of the Alamo? It happened before Texas was even a US state. It was a war between Mexico and the Republic of Texas. It was a bloody massacre that left many dead, so yes, it's a sacred ground. The Tejano people saw it as a hospital, a mission, a post. Not a place where people died.
You're forgetting that it's 'Mericuh, where war is holy :v:
No, uh, not really. The Alamo was a Catholic mission and hospital where fighters of the Republic of Texas made a final stand against the Mexican army led by Santa Anna. Roughly 200 Texans held out for 13 days against more than 1500 Mexican attackers. When the battle was completed, Santa Anna ordered the bodies of the defenders burned rather than buried.
A Mexican man too, no less. Did he not understand how insensitive and disrespectful that would be? It would be like a Japanese mam carving his grandfather's name at the Arizona Memorial. That place is a mass grave, National Historical Site, and World Heratage Site.
There's a middle ground between a slap on the wrist and a $250,000 fine.
But this is like the Mecca of Texas and he's being prosecuted in texas. It'd be safe to say they have a little bias against him
But this is like the Mecca of Texas and he's being prosecuted in texas. It'd be safe to say they have a little bias against him
And he's Hispanic.
But this is like the Mecca of Texas and he's being prosecuted in texas. It'd be safe to say they have a little bias against him
He's not getting fined $250,000 dollars. Though he's getting a felony charge for causing over $150,000 in damage to a sacred monument and UNESCO World Heritage Center.
charge of criminal mischief causing damage in excess of $150,000. Due to the amount, he faces a felony charge.
Maybe he shouldn't have desiccated a national monument.
One thing's for sure, he'll always remember the Alamo.
Apathy, possibly cultural disgust due to his ethnicity.
Are you seriously suggesting that some Mexicans care so much about something that happened so long ago? Like what? He likely did it for the same reason tourists carve their names into the Colosseum.
Are you seriously suggesting that some Mexicans care so much about something that happened so long ago? Like what?
