[release]Shortly it will be exactly three years since the release of what I consider to be the last great PC exclusive - Crysis. Recently reinstalling Crysis, I expected to see that it had dated, but this wasn't the case at all. At maximum settings the game still looks better than pretty much anything else out there, packing every type of advanced visual and physics effect available. And despite it being fashionable to ridicule Crysis as just a pretty tech demo, personally I find the gameplay to be excellent. The enemy AI, the weapons, the interactivity with the game world, and of course the nanosuit, along with a whole range of small touches mean that no two playthroughs are ever the same. The few tedious moments are more than offset by the sheer atmosphere of the game, and several attack/infiltration scenarios in large open areas which you can play over and over again using any tactics and weapons you wish. Then of course there's the fact that Crysis, as befitting a true PC exclusive, is extremely customizable thanks to over 1,600 command variables, an incredibly powerful editor and thousands of user-made mods. Few games these days have these sort of credentials.
So I thought it was time to give this misunderstood and much-maligned PC classic a small tribute on its impending third birthday. I've uploaded several HD videos on YouTube at maximum visual settings:

The First Video plays through the initial portion of one of my favorite engagements against the KPA.

The Second Video provides a more general look at the atmosphere of the game's tropical island setting.

The Third Video is for people who like big explosions, briefly demonstrating a nuke mod.
As more and more people now have the hardware to truly appreciate it in all its glory, I recommend that you reinstall Crysis, or if you don't have it, grab it from a bargain bin or from Steam. Ramp up the graphics and play it on Delta difficulty and you'll see what I'm talking about. Here's hoping Crysis 2, set for release in March 2011, lives up to the Crysis name.
[/release]
Nostalgia'd, i'm so reinstalling crysis. The guy who runs tweakguides made them.
I oughta reinstall Crysis too.
This game is nearly 3 years old.
And it still looks better than any game on the market
It's been 3 years... and my PC still can't run Crysis, even on low. :v:
Oh well, at least it showed that graphics do not make a game by themselves.

Crysis was an extremely fun game in my opinion.
Can't wait to play number 2 on my PC. Hope the campaign is awesome like number 1.
I still can't quite run Crysis at max graphics. It was the first game I tested after I got my new graphics card a few weeks ago. It's close though. Max everything at 1920x1080 with 4x anti-aliasing and it ran about 30-40 FPS. It was better than expected.
PC classic my ass, Crysis was fun until Crytek decided to go "hurr you're goin 2 b killin alienz nao!!!"
I enjoyed playing Crysis but i never completed it. Maybe it's time to finish it off.

Are you joking? those [sp]Zero G[/sp] levels Are no doubt the best levels in the game, And then that ending was crazy fun.
I don't know about that one i always thought that i was playing duck hunt as soon as the aliens got involved but a more alien version of duckhunt.

Yep.
Of course, the people who say otherwise tend to be the ones who couldn't end up playing the game in the first place.
The multiplayer was crazy as well.
Crysis has an amazing engine.
Coincidentally I just finished a playthrough yesterday
Scar is one of my favourite all time video game weapons
This is the only game I know that lets you use your own tactics, not all RUN AND SHOOT AT PEOPLE OVER AND OVER
I can run the game on max luckily.
Still thought it was pretty shit.

No they're not they're shit, why go "here you go kids, have a nice jungle to explore" then go "HAHA JUST KIDDING HAVE FUN IN AN ALIEN SHIP LOL!" the ending was bullshit as well let's have a character go insane oh here you go have a weapon that can fire nuclear rounds.

The multiplayer was garbage all people did was cloak and then camp with a sniper rifle, Crytek should be ashamed for ripping off C&C Renegades multiplayer and then producing such tripe.
OP needs zero g level vid

So how often do you see Zero-G Levels for a start? And the Aliens are more unique than others I've seen in games and TV Shows And you realize that in games, AREA'S CHANGE. Jesus what a shock, A game using multiple environments, It's different, So I must hate it.

You see them once, because they're shit.

You know what makes it better? Try doing it on the hardest difficulty you can handle, with fists only.

Far cry 2, sometimes STALKER.
Classic example of "graphics do not make a game".
Before all you loves of Crysis bitch, put the game on low graphics, turn off AA, load up that ice level after the alien encounter. Tell me it isn't generic-COD-look-down-the-gun-iron-sights-to-shoot-gameplay-were used to by now.

before all of you haters of Crysis bitch, load up any of the missions at the first half of the game involving just you, turn down all of the graphics and note that it makes no fucking difference because the first half is absolutely ace and if you don't think it is either your standards are too high, or you're a broken man.
Crysis a pc classic? The game isn't even 3 years old... Maybe in 10 years, but time will tell.
Classics are:
- Goldeneye
- Half-life
- Quake
- Doom
Seriously I can't nostalgia over something that is 3 years old.
PC classic? Not yet. Maybe in +10 years.
PC classic? Not yet. Maybe in +10 years.
I second this.
Too bad that crysis had horrible AI and terminator like enemies.
Oh and dont get me started on the ragdoll physics.
Too bad that crysis had horrible AI and terminator like enemies.

well that's all wrong
just because you played it once and then spouted the same shit for 3 years after doesn't make it true
it has great ai, don't be sweyed by those few youtube videos where it glitches. a glitch isn't a part of the ai, and it doesn't mean the ai is bad. and terminator like enemies? i have to assume that you just suck at the game. and bad ragdoll physics? how? they're great. dead bodies do not ragdoll however due to german laws, since crytek is a germany based company.
quit spewin this shit it's not true at all

Name one shooter with better AI and ragdoll physics. Crytek did a damn good job in making the AI function is such a large environment.
Anyway, I really liked Crysis. Great game, great quality. The Very High settings are still a tough job for pretty much every graphics card around.
I'm amazed it works on my PC quite well, and the game is fantastic.
