this has gone too far
I'll be honest, this doesn't bother me. If the content in Metal Gear games bothers him, or he disagrees with it, he shouldn't force himself to play or review them. Not everyone has to like the same games, or even accept what's in them.
It's not exactly a great secret that Japan doesn't hold women in the highest regard, given the nature of their television, videogames, print media, etc. Metal Gear is a product of its environment, so it makes sense that the content would be moderately off-putting to some.
EDIT: Since people here seem to think I'm against the Metal Gear franchise, or that I'm somehow endorsing his views: I'm not. I personally enjoy Metal Gear, I've played through MGS2, 3, and 4, and I thought they were brilliant. I'm just saying this is his personal decision, and while we might not agree with it, there's no real reason for us to get upset over it. We don't have really have the right to be upset, it's not our choice. It isn't really our business.

except for the fact that what he says in the video is the complete opposite of truth, as he dismissed obvious calls against sexism in the games (the b&b unit) and manages to somehow hold women to a higher regard in an ironic twist to sexism
making fun of people's hobbies (otacon is such a nerd wow) sexually assaulting men (raikov) are completely forgotten in his consensus which balances the two genders as equally mistreated
but now he's obviously an enlightened individual about to get mad tumblrina pussy

If one plays the game without looking at it through tumblr goggles they'd quickly notice that there's an uncanny obsession over male butts in the metal gear series.
In MGS 4, there's outright more close-up shots total of old snake's ass than there are shots of any female character's face. The series in general is overflowing with gay undertones and in MGS 3 the main antagonist pretty much admits to being a bisexual bdsm enthusiast who openly fondles snake's crotch. In the same game, The Fear injects you with a real poison that's known to give massive raging boners irl.
If anything MGS is sexist towards men because it sexualizes the living fuck out of men and women are having it relatively easy.

People freak out over the stupidest shit

what you have to understand is that this is the most sudden bullshit ever, anyone that really likes metal gear really liked this guy
As has been said in the Metal Gear Discussion thread, I'm glad this guy hasn't played Policenauts:

that's a pretty bold statement to just throw out there
It's funny because EVA's whole shtick was [sp]to seduce Snake and steal the Legacy[/sp] so the fanservice is justified.

but you dont get it
ocelot overpowers her by [sp]giving the chinese the fake[/sp]
beijing must be in uproar right about now
Other than his holier-than-thou attitude, I don't see anything really wrong with the video.
It's evident he's just decided to take notice and cherry pick the stuff regarding women and negate everything else.
His arguments The Boss is sexist are ludicrous that woman is literally god-tier in MGS and everything she did ripples through the entire series.
Not even 30 seconds in and my PTSD is triggered, thanks asshole.

Yeah I mean if he feels uncomfortable with the content and doesn't wanna play it any more what's there to say other than 'ok'?

Why doesn't he go to the beach and complains to all the women wearing bikinis about how they objectify women by showing all their curves and cleavages
Literally like a minute in he explains his argument is basically cherry picking.

10/10 criticism brb throwing out all of my horrible sexist filth metal gear games.

I don't know who this James Howell guy is but I do know now that he is a blubbering baby that can't deal with things being different.
These game critics really are sheltered fucks.
If you're playing MGS and looking at the women you're doing it wrong.
that's a pretty bold statement to just throw out there
It's true though
Regardless, his examples for really stretching, not even mentioning the intense cherrypicking going on as well. Like how is Rose becoming a mother sexist, something that most women become at some point in their lives? If anything, people should be offended by how annoying she is in 2
that's a pretty bold statement to just throw out there
Yes. It is.

And yet sexism is a real problem there. Has been for centuries. Well-documented. It only makes sense that that sexism would continue past society and into the media it produces.
(And yes, I'm aware of the homoeroticism and male sexualization in Metal Gear. I've played MGS2, 3, and 4, and I honestly thought they were great games. The content doesn't really bother me, I chalk it up to Kojima's creative direction, finding weird ways to work weird things into a weird story in a way that makes sense. I'm not saying we should all stop playing Metal Gear, I'm just saying we should maybe accept that these games feature a lot of really touchy content, and realize that maybe this guy isn't so wrong in wanting to avoid them. If nothing else, we shouldn't insult him for his personal opinions and choices, no matter how daft we might find them to be.)

Seriously even women aren't nearly as upset as some of these middle class white dudes.

We are just as entitled to call him a moron as he is to make his moronic and frankly pathetic claim.
I am willing to bet that there is no mention of Otacon, torture, terrorism, child soldiers, or suicide. Just a huff about cleavage and the claim of "sexualized violence"
except look at BB in peacewalker:

Now, I'm all for people having opinions (even if they are objectively wrong) but I am surprised that he is making false claims about the games he actually played. The games are absolutely loaded with shit the opposite of misogyny or muh anti-women ideals, but you'd have to be incredibly narrow minded in order to ignore them or not notice them. The series even explores sexuality (primarily homosexual or not entirely heterosexual) within characters without shoving it down your throat.
I'd like to say that the series does a good job of portraying men and women equally, but in reality it's incredibly bias towards objectifying and demonizing men. As a previous poster has said, MGS4 is practically a close up shot of an old guys ass. It's like watching through the Labyrinth and staring at Bowie's dick the entire time. Are there scenes intended to be sexual, potentially objectifying in nature? yes, and they're used within the story.
Volgin, a hardass bisexual dick groping sadist beats up a woman on screen. Where you can choose to look at this fact and scream it as something disgusting and horrible, you'd be ignoring the fact that it happens to other characters. You'd be placing women on some god-like pedestal, and that's a ridiculous thing to do.

What bothers me is that he is wrong. He can keep his opinion, but what he says is misinterpreted, wrong or not the truth. Also,

You're treading on real thin ice there my friend. Best to keep derogatory blanket claims/negative stereotypes like that to yourself.

those straps would do you no good on any kind of harness. they're not in the right places.
unless military harnesses for things function entirely differently than civilian variations upon that.
