HBO and Warner Bros. TV are teaming to produce a series based on Isaac Asimov's “Foundation” trilogy that will be written and produced by “Interstellar” writer Jonathan Nolan, multiple individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.

Sony Pictures acquired “Foundation” in a multi-studio auction back in 2009 and attached Roland Emmerich to direct and produce. Two years later, the studio hired Dante Harper (“Akira”) to adapt the books. When the project failed to materialize, HBO spent big bucks to acquire the property when it became available earlier this summer.

“Foundation” follows mathematician Hari Seldon, who has dedicated his life to developing psychohistory, a concept that uses the laws of mass action to predict the future on a large scale. When he foresees the imminent fall of the Galactic Empire and a dark age that will last 30,000 years, he sets out to create a foundation of talented artisans and engineers to preserve and expand on humanity's collective knowledge with the hope of establishing a new empire.
Psychohistory could have predicted this
Just please, don't fuck it up.

i hope they remember this little line here from the foundation(also one of the isaac asimov's favorite sayings)

and don't try to turn it into some dumb action thing, we could use a smart sci-fi show :(
Man, if they stay true to the books they're going to go through a lot of actors in a short amount of time. maybe this would work better in more of a sherlock style series with fewer but longer episodes
Please don't fuck this up.
Foundation lends itself well to intrigue and politicking because the first book was literally all about Terminus masquerading their technology as religion and eventually using their economic might to starve out the (sometimes explicitly hostile) competition.
I'll have to read them before this. Asimov is a great author and it's good to see more of his works being adapted to film/TV.

An episode or three dedicated to the adventures of MULTIVAC would be amazing, "All the Troubles of the World" and "The Last Question" could be extremely powerful if they did it right.

well thank fuck it didnt materialise
I'm praying that this will go super good, and that HBO will do the Hyperion cantos.
Hyperion would be so down HBO's valley. There's a part where a dude is fucking a girl, and then the girl turns into a spike metal death machine mid-sex, and then the guy runs away while cumming.
Classic HBO material
After watching I wanted Interstellar to be a show... I guess this is fine too, albeit I only read the first book and two "prequels"
I've read Asimov's Robot series and most of the Foundation series. I enjoyed the Robot series more, both because it was more mystery, and because it was easier to follow.
i think it's time for a new star trek series. that will bring sci-fi back from ~gritty movies~ which it's devolved into.
Hopefully we'll see an episode directed by Christopher Nolan as well, even if it's just one.
I hope it's good and they don't fuck it up, we need more science-fiction shows with today's TV standards.
Foundation books are amazing, read them. Better yet read all of Asimovs books.

Nemesis was a great book
Now give me I, Robot with Ellison's screenplay.
