It may be a little late, but I thought I would share the fan made trailer. I have a feeling that this game will be right up there with Minecraft! Also if you want to follow and learn more about Cube World then go check out the dev blog: http://wollay.blogspot.com/
Orc here I come
At this point in time, I'm sure nothing will best Minecraft- at least not similar games.
At this point in time, I'm sure nothing will best Minecraft- at least not similar games.
I kinda agree but I also disagree because Minecraft has had its glory days, now Minecraft is just that game that your friends have, don't get me wrong I still play Minecraft and I love it half of the time lol. This game is not like Minecraft, it has the cubes like Minecraft, but it has no main focus on building at this point. Right now Cube World is more like an Action RPG.
oh hey another minecraft clone
Looks more interesting than MineCraft imo
oh hey another minecraft clone
Wow some people are so arrogant... This game is nothing like Minecraft it has cubes like Minecraft that is it. If you want to say this Cube World is a clone then take a look at Minecraft there were several cube games before Minecraft, but it just so happens that Minecraft got popular and thus a new era was born. By the way I'm not bashing on Minecraft, personally I loved and still like Minecraft, but it is getting old maybe because I have played it too much, or maybe because there is just not enough stuff to do at this point, ever since the official launch of Minecraft updates have slowed.
Its not a minecraft clone, however it was obviously inspired by minecraft. This isnt a bad thing, but i wish people made these sorts of games like... without needing an amazingly successful game like minecraft to lead the charge.
oh hey another minecraft clone
thats like saying that Nvidia is a clone company of ATi because it makes graphics cards
Seriously this is getting silly. Not everything that has voxels is Minecraft. I mean how can you even compare this to Minecraft? It's not any bit like it. It's a fucking RPG idiots and I'm getting really tired of reading threads of a potentially awesome games and then seeing everyone starting to compare it to Minecraft. "Hurr durr this game is built up of squares. must be minecraft clone/competitor" You're fucking adults not everything is black and white, holy shit. That includes you too OP, it's not Minecraftesque or X with Minecraft graphics. It's a god damn RPG and that as far as you should go in generalizing it.

I always thought minecraft shoulda had some sort of RPG hint to it.. I'll try cube world out just to see if it was a good idea or not.
Here is some of the combat in Cube World.

From the looks of it, it was far more influenced by The Legend of Zelda and that was 8bit which as I assume you know, looks exactly like all these blocky games but instead of being 2D these games are 3D.
Here is some of the combat in Cube World.
From What I saw in the video, it looks like a "hold down mouse 1 until dead" kind of RPG. Which isn't all that appealing to me.
Bookmark'd. Gonna see what happens with this, but so far it looks awesome.
From What I saw in the video, it looks like a "hold down mouse 1 until dead" kind of RPG. Which isn't all that appealing to me.
It kind of is, but you can learn new combos. Also this is still unreleased so they might add new features like magic.
I hope they do like Voxeltron did and include an object/creature editor to expand the game.
I hope they do like Voxeltron did and include an object/creature editor to expand the game.
That would be amazing, and I can only imagine some of the crazy stuff that people would create. I think if something like that was released with the game it would make it even more fun.
It kind of is, but you can learn new combos. Also this is still unreleased so they might add new features like magic.
Sounds interesting, but I tend to like slower hack and slashes (around the same lines as Demons souls, or Dark Messiah)
I hope they do like Voxeltron did and include an object/creature editor to expand the game.
You can edit your weapons with blocks and make them look however you want them to.
oh hey another minecraft clone
Yes, because EVERY game with blocks is an instant Minecraft clone!
Does this game have any sort of quest system? Seems pretty boring if you just walk around, explore, and kill mobs.
Yes the game has friendly NPCs that you can talk to and they can give you quests. Here's a video showing some of the first quests. Like it says in the video currently there are only kill quests, but again this game is still in development and more interesting quests will be available. All quests and worlds are randomly generated.
Look, the way I see it is that as soon as Minecraft became popular, all of a sudden, completely by coincidence, a bunch of games resembling it crept up out of nowhere. You can go on about how "lol game has cubes but dat don't mene it's a clone lols" but the fact of the matter is, the vast majority of these games wouldn't have been thought of if the developers hadn't seen how popular Minecraft had got. I just get sick of these naive people going on about how it's ~inspired~ by Minecraft, and even more sick of people who tell those people they're thick and that it's nothing like Minecraft. This game could've been made without resorting to a world made up of cubes, but the designers thought "hey, that Minecraft game's gotten pretty popular. Our game has no gameplay reason to have a cube world, but if we make it resemble Minecraft in some way, no doubt a large portion of the fanbase will flock to our game in droves." Seriously. While I'll admit that this game looks pretty fun, you can't tell me that it's nothing like Minecraft. Guessing I'm gonna get a bunch of dumb ratings from people with a warped sense of what originality is and what it isn't.
That's how business works. Example: Look at all the developers that try to copy Call of Duty, or Halo.
I'm pretty sure you just validated everything he just said.

The only similar thing I see is that it's made of blocks, other than that, gameplay seems to be very different.

So in your arrogant eyes you view this as a "clone" because it uses voxels, but in reality it does not "closely resemble nor imitate" Minecraft. That's like saying every game with a gun "imitates or closely resembles" Call of Duty.

It uses a (seemingly) rudimentary combat system, Much of it (such as character creation and weapon creation) is fueled from creativity. It is (seemingly) randomly generated via chunks. Also, if anything, it is a clone (or takes inspiration from) 3D Dot Heroes. Except with a bigger emphasis on exploration (ala Minecraft) rather than Zelda like dungeon crawling.
oh hey another minecraft clone
Please be a joke, please be a joke, please be a joke... Anyway, this looks fantastic actually, I like how you can design the weapons, I'll be paying attention to this.
