• Steve Wozniak: "I wish my [iPhone] did all the things my Android does, I really do"
Woz never fails to impress me. If the man has opinions, he doesn't mind sharing them, whatever the consequences. I just didn't expect him to openly admit to preferring many Android features over those of his iPhone. Speaking to The Daily Beast, Woz openly chatted about the pros and cons of Android. "My primary phone is the iPhone," Woz said. "I love the beauty of it. But I wish it did all the things my Android does, I really do." What things, Woz, what things? Turns out he's particularly impressed by, of all things, the voice recognition, GPS navigation and, since the launch of the iPhone 4S, battery life. Ultimately, while he admits that iOS is more immediately user-friendly, he went on to explain that with Android phones "if you're willing to do the work to understand it a little bit, well I hate to say it, but there's more available in some ways." It doesn't come as a huge shock that Woz likes Android. After all, he headed straight to Google HQ to pick up a pre-release Galaxy Nexus. It also turns out that, just like us, Woz isn't currently a huge fan of Siri. Speaking again to the Daily Beast, he said: "I used to ask Siri, ‘What are the five biggest lakes in California?' and it would come back with the answer. Now it just misses. It gives me real estate listings. I used to ask, ‘What are the prime numbers greater than 87?' and it would answer. Now instead of getting prime numbers, I get listings for prime rib, or prime real estate "With the iPhone 4 I could press a button and call my wife. Now on the 4S I can only do that when Siri can connect over the Internet. But many times it can't connect. I've never had Android come and say, ‘I can't connect over the Internet.'" Still, fan boys needn't worry their pretty little heads. Because Woz is proud that the iPhone is simple for you to use! "For that kind of person who is scared of complexity, well, here's a phone that is simple to use and does what you need it to do," he said. Apple: happy to make tech for people that are scared of tech. I've always liked Wozniak, it's just that Jobs always managed to get himself put in front of the camera instead, and took credit for everything.
I really don't understand why people are so condescending towards apple. Some people aren't techies. I know I'm not. I can't be arsed to spend a whole evening tweaking my gadgets to get the most out of them. I have a cheap secondhand iPhone and iPad, and they both work well and do what I need them to do, without any hassle. Some people just have different priorities.
well steve wozniak is ultimately the one who made computers available to all, so he's really to blame for the concept of user-friendliness. :v:
Wozniak Steve best Steve.
I've always liked Wozniak, it's just that Jobs always managed to get himself put in front of the camera instead, and took credit for everything.
He didn't "take credit for everything", he was a marketing genious. I think Wozniak and Job both had a great synergy which made Apple what it is today. Woz was a great engineer, Steve knew what the consumers wanted and took the risks to succeed.

That would have been true in the earlier days of mobile phones, however the newer versions of Windows Mobile and other OSs have been getting closer and closer to the user-friendly level of iOS (of course this is highly subjective, but you can see the slow progression towards the "big buttons" interface in mobile phones at opposed to more traditional "menu" style GUIs in earlier versions of Windows Mobile. They also are more tweakable. I'd say Android is also nice because it doesn't restrict the developers as much as Apple does, because Apple tries to maintain a gated community, yet often remains oblivious to abuse inside the system. This coming from the guy that helped make the apple computer with jobs. Wozniak, you winner
But does Woz have Steve's "reality distortion field"
No, but what is your point?
No, but what is your point?
just was making a sarcastic statement... I'm saying that Steve also had the ability to motivate engineers to perform well and meet deadlines, an ability that corporate management often lacks.

The only thing difficult about android is there are two different menu screens and an action overview. Other than that, icons and everything is exactly like apple.

Smartphones usability and learning threshold have developed towards the same low point and the difference between today's brands are minuscule.
Self confessed engineer prefers products that gives him more ways to tweak! Wow! Android (any version) remains an absolute train wreck of usability
Self confessed engineer prefers products that gives him more ways to tweak! Wow!
(didn't read enough to find out that said self confessed engineer actually prefers the iPhone, how embarrassing)
I actually have no fucking idea what android phones are like.

Some people just have different priorities.
The fact that you're willing to spend upwards of $300 on a piece of technology but not care enough to learn its basic features is a bit on the soft side though. You don't need to "tweak" a phone like a computer does and if you were lulled into thinking that there was some kind of trial you had to run through to use one, you were deceived.
(didn't read enough to find out that said self confessed engineer actually prefers the iPhone, how embarrassing)
oh my goodness let me rephrase. He appreciates the added functionality of products which give him more ways to tweak! Wow!
Wozniak is so underapreciated. I'm amazed he always keeps such high self-esteem.
I actually have no fucking idea what android phones are like.
Awesome.
WP7 I'd say yes. Android (any version) remains an absolute train wreck of usability
... What?
Android (any version) remains an absolute train wreck of usability
Have you ever used an android phone?
In other news, steve jobs is now rolling in his grave.
WP7 I'd say yes. Android (any version) remains an absolute train wreck of usability
So are you just bad with technology? Because Android seems simple and easy to use for me. Oh look, I also can insert my biased subjective opinion into this discussion!
WP7 I'd say yes. Android (any version) remains an absolute train wreck of usability
What's so terrible about it?
Have you ever used an android phone?
Dr Egg is one of the only at least halfway fanboys back in the H&S section, so don't mind him voicing highly exaggerated opinions, and then spout about someone is biased. He can be reasonable at times, though. Also, the bias over at Gizmodo just shines through this interview.
