Five protesters were shot late Monday night near the Black Lives Matter encampment at the Fourth Precinct police station in north Minneapolis, according to police. Those who were shot sustained non-life-threatening injuries, said police spokesman John Elder in a statement. Miski Noor, a media contact for Black Lives Matter, said “a group of white supremacists showed up at the protest, as they have done most nights.” One of the three counterdemonstrators wore a mask, said Dana Jaehnert, who had been at the protest site since early evening. When about a dozen protesters attempted to herd the group away from the area, Noor said, they “opened fire on about six protesters,” hitting five of them. Jaehnert said she heard four gunshots. The shootings occurred at 10:45 p.m. on Morgan Avenue N. about a block north of the precinct station. [...] The attackers fled. No arrests had been made by midnight Monday. Police said via their Twitter feed that they are searching for three white male suspects. [...] At least two of the three men who had been taunting protesters were firing guns, said Wronski-Riley, who described the incident as “really chaotic, really fast.” “I am obviously appalled that white supremacists would open fire on nonviolent, peaceful protesters,” said Nekima Levy-Pounds, president of the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP, who returned to the site after the shootings. The protesters, angry over the fatal police shooting of 24-year-old Jamar Clark on Nov. 15, have maintained a presence outside the police station ever since. Eddie Sutton, Jamar’s brother, issued this statement early Tuesday morning in response to the shootings: “Thank you to the community for the incredible support you have shown for our family in this difficult time. We appreciate Black Lives Matter for holding it down and keeping the protests peaceful. But in light of tonight’s shootings, the family feels out of imminent concern for the safety of the occupiers, we must get the occupation of the 4th precinct ended and onto the next step.”
source
It was inevitable that this would happen, I'm only surprised it hasn't been more frequent. I was predicting this kind of shit during the Ferguson protests last year, when armed "militias" started patrolling the streets, and the KKK released their letter threatening violent force against any protesters they saw. We've hardly reached the end of racial tension in this country, and I fear that things will get worse before they get better.
Violent acts only justifies their movement....
Star Tribune leaving out that the protesters attacked the "White supremacists" (Of which there's no proof as well) when they weren't doing anything. I'm sure that's just a coincidence, though.
Sounds from the "protesters trying to herd them away" that the protesters confronted the group and tried to run them off with the situation escalating from there. Then the white trash idiots see a large group of people yelling at them and confronting them and "jump the gun" literally and start firing because they feel they had the excuse they needed. It is like a god damn cartoon, both groups demonize the other and then do exactly what they're fucking complaining about. White supremacists bitch that "our racial heritage is threatened and we are going to be victims of racial violence!" then proceed to do racial violence. BLM protesters scream "we're victims of discrimination, profiling, etc and we demand eqaulity!" and then proceed to discriminate, profile and try to overall treat other races (mainly Caucasian) the very way they're protesting. edit - People so convinced they're doing 'justice" that they dismiss everything else and through that become the thing that they vow to destroy.

Thats why it is called an excuse, they didn't have a valid reason. Their entire existence is around the fact that they believe other races want to destroy them and/or less superior/evil etc. Through this ignorance it makes them want to deal 'justice" and all it takes is an itchy trigger finger and some stressful situation like a large group of a race they fear confronting them to make this happen. Think of it like the threads that get posted about ISIS doing something evil, half the facepunchers are talking about ways they wish they could murder the guys in different creative ways. That exact same line of thinking is what made these guys fire, as they view minorities in general as the same way we view ISIS. At least that is how I view their thinking, as fucked up as it is.

It says the "protesters tried to herd the counter protesters away", which means they tried to confront them and run them off. The white supremacists probably felt threatened as I am sure any BLM who sees a white supremacist would understandably be upset and were probably very up in their face. The white supremecists with already itchy trigger fingers acted, with that being the excuse in their mind to go through with it.
Being attacked and chased by a group of people because you had a camera isn't a valid reason to fear for your life?
Um, being attacked and chased by a group of people seems to be a valid reason to fear for your life.

So someone that is with the filmers gets punched or almost punched, then they (the protestors) try to chase the filmers away. From the sound of it, they would've kept pursuing them if they (the filmers) didn't flash their guns. Some of the chasers kept running after them and in return they get shot. Shooting someone is something that is a last resort, but I would shit my pants if a group of masked black guys ran after me. I a curious why they were filming the protestors though.

Protesters chase White videographers and get shot doing so and then the media says it was White supremacists just shooting black protesters. Hmph... Sounds to me like a cold-cut case of self-defense. Either way you try to spin it. Were they right to shoot them? Probably not. But did they have the right to? Absolutely.
Holy shit there were some guys posting on /k/ about going to the BLM protests dressed in camo and being identified as white supremicists.
Were they right to shoot them? Probably not.
They aren't right to defend themselves from being attacked? Weird, that's news to me.
I would shit my pants if a group of masked black guys ran after me..
glad you had to specify
Oh I thought it was literal white supremecists. Either way my initial point still stands, that these groups literally become the thing they hate and become a source of the problem they're trying to fight.

I knew this cannibalization bullshit was gonna start happening when they started to scream put the cameras away. Watch the fucking video, one of the guys with the masks had a BLM protest banner with em.

BLM, protesting for the fact that a wife beater and someone who tried to disrupt emergency services got shot dead niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice
The part where he said they thought he was a white supremacist because he had a BLM sign with him makes NO sense to me.
Actually they said they weren't sure because of the sign. [editline]24th November 2015[/editline] They just assumed guys in masks were white supremacists instead of a few guys aiming to get a wide angle camera shot to the crowd for any number of reasons.

But I guess to them, any white person there with a mask = automatically a white supremacist even though they're wearing masks too. (Likely because it's fucking cold)
Watch this incident be twisted around by the BLM protesters. The movement has some good ideas but their methods are disgusting
If, and that's a big if, that video is an accurate description of the events, then it seems like a pretty cut and dry case of self-defense. The protesters attacked first by punching one of the videographers, the videographers ran, the protestors physically chased them down in a crowd of people, and the videographers defended themselves by shooting. Having a crowd of angry protesters chasing you right after showing that at least some of them intend violence would be really scary.
How is it a big if when it's a candid interview of someone that was literally right there?
Any and all witnesses can misremember, see things incorrectly, etc. It's better to wait for more information before making a definitive accusation. The fact that the person being interviewed was part of the BLM crowd does seem to make it more likely though.
