Poachers in my town leave severed deer heads around anti-poaching couple's home
WATERLOO — Deb Swidrovich and her husband have long tried to stop illegal poaching in their backyard and on the surrounding rural lands in this quiet corner of Waterloo.
But recently, that ongoing dispute took a gruesome twist. On Thursday, Swidrovich found two severed deer heads stuck up on display near her home on Wilmot Line.
One was strapped to the top of a fence post, the other placed on a tree right at the edge of Conservation Drive — both within the City of Waterloo boundary where bow and rifle hunting are strictly prohibited.
Their antlers had been removed and, in one case, an electrical cord was used to fasten the head to the fence post....
... "These types of hunters give other hunters a bad name. It shows, to me, a total lack of regard for the law and no reverence for the wildlife they kill," she said. "But the difficult thing about this is they have to catch them in the act."
She's worried about the safety of the many hikers, runners and cyclists who use the roads and trails around her home, too.
Waterloo Regional Police say they're looking into the deer head incident and have removed the animal remains. But they have no suspects so far.
If the person responsible is caught, they could face criminal harassment charges, police said.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says complaints about poaching are common this time of year, but hard to prove and difficult to enforce. The conservation officer who covers Waterloo Region is also responsible for Wellington County, an area more than 4,000 square kilometres in size.
Oh deer.
But seriously though, what the fuck
poachers suck
No.
Just what is their problem, seriously? point out that something happens to be a crime to somebody then suddenly a deer's head winds up on your doorstep? who do these poachers they think they are, the N'Drangheta?
This fairly obscure article had just one comment :
Hunting in the fall is a tradition passed from generation to generation as well as being part of man's role since pre history. These damned whining tree huggers are just stirring up trouble. They should just shut up and mind their own business.
Sounds like they have a suspect, if they could trace the IP. :v:
upon reading the title i was just picturing a nice little suburban home that was surrounded by a circle of dozens of deer heads

I was hoping for some real Heart of Darkness shit
No.

Well at least they didn't put the deer heads into their bed.

Yet.
The criminals are wanted. Seems like they are putting themselves in a risky position with threats like these. I wonder if the couple will keep baiting them out.

What's the N'Drangheta? Mafia equivalent?
What's the N'Drangheta? Mafia equivalent?
Mafiosi from Italy, responsible for running most of the drug trade in Europe.

Yep, we call ours the Underworld. Mostly headquartered in Mumbai. (Unfortunately) know most of the senior members as family friends.

Good hunting, stalker.

You should totally show them the film "The Godfather".
EDIT: Make 'em an offer they can't refuse.

Oh,a lot of them already know if it - the few old gits I know apparently preferred Puzo's The Sicilian more. Besides, we have an Indian....."take" on The Godfather, which is called Sarkaar.
Lousy, not at all like they've described (as much as they can risk me knowing about). Most of these guys were smugglers back in the seventies, who then branched out into contract killing and extortion rackets. That having been said, they've been buddies with some of the nastiest people in the business. On the plus side, I got to meet a lot of Bollywood stars at their shindigs. :v:
Quite frankly, these people terrify me because they always have an aura of unspeakable malice around them, even if they're total bros to you. A lot of bad juju, man. :v:
I'm relieved nobody posted the infamous deer.

Kind of like buddying up with a tiger, in a way.
Kind of like buddying up with a tiger, in a way.
Kind of, but that's partly because my paternal grandfather was, in a sense, a bit of a tiger himself which is how he met all these people in the first place :v: 1970's mumbai would be a good setting for any "True Crime" styled video game with he fucked up shit that went on (and still goes on there) - it's India's New York.
I read the title wrong and thought pochers beheaded th anti-poachers.
That considered this isn't all that bad.
It's kind of fucked up to put severed heads around someone's house. But deer are meant to be hunted. It would be different if they draped the person's house in Bengal tiger pelts.

yes they are meant to be hunted, god put them on this earth to be eaten! they were designed to be eaten! they're meant for it!

Pretty much. I'm not a hunter myself, but deer are just natural prey.
but really, overhunting is a problem which is why they restrict hunting game to specific seasons and such stuff.
[editline]18th November 2013[/editline]
because then there would be no more deer left to hunt which would be sad

I'd like to see them hunt Bengal Tigers and find it easy, especially the ones in the Sunderbans. Those ones actually like to attack humans. Here's one attack at Kaziranga.

It's different when you poach deer and the like. With animals like tigers, especially Bengal tigers, you fuck up and you're done.

Yep nothing wrong with hunting deer
But seeing as this is about illegal poaching I think the couple is in the right here.
Poaching is not okay, and it damages conservation efforts which are very, very important for the environment. I hope they catch the person(s) responsible for this shit, because not only is it weird but it's fucking shit up for everyone.
Holy shit I want this game. Can there be Bollywood music too?
That would be so awesome.
Disgusting. My mom is really sensitive about animal cruelty/effects of hunting and poaching, so imagining the effect this'd have on her is making me cringe pretty hard.
Bastards. Hope they catch them.
I wish we had deer poachers here
they're literally everywhere and make a hobby of jumping in front of cars
fuck deer
