AT&T Just announced in their develpoers conference (with Steve Ballmer on stage) the release of a new HTC Windows Phone, the HTC TITAN II. The device (coming as a complete surprise) Will pack a 4.7 S-LCD screen, 16 megapixel camera, along with Image stabilization, Panorama mode autofocus, and dual LED flash, red eye reduction, image stabilization, and a burst shot mode for sports or kids. It has an independent processor for the camera built inside, and supports 4G data speeds with the latest technology: LTE. No more details have been given on other features of the phone but it will probably come with a new build of Windows Phone, most likely Tango, as the current version (mango) does not support LTE.
Along with this announcement, in a press release, AT&T also announced the Nokia Lumia 900, another Windows Phone with 4.3" ClearBlack screen, with LTE support as well. more details incoming tomorrow.
Also 6 new Android LTE-enabled phones were announced: The Galaxy Note, The Galaxy Exhilirate, Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD, Sony Xperia Ion, Pantech Element, and the Pantech Burst.

LTE and a 16 megapixel camera. That can't end well with the battery duration and all that. Sounds interesting still.

I love how the focus in the cellular world is finally beginning to shift away from Apple and iOS and towards Android and even Windows phones to some degree.
What's that, Windows Phone? No thanks!
att is so late to the android train i dont think they have much chance of catching up

I have a Windows Phone, they're pretty cool!
I have a Windows Phone, they're pretty cool!
They may be cool but they can't really compare to Android/iOS.
A 16 megapixel camera seems extremely excessive.
But I suppose to most people, the bigger the number, the better.
I wish microsoft didn't lock down WP7 so much. It's a very smooth experience, but there's next to no customization options for it.

It's still kinda new, right? WP feels like a reboot of their mobile platform, so I'd imagine it'll take a while for the WP platform to get to that level.

How come? I've had it for 10 months now and I haven't noticed a single thing that's lacking. Sure, it doesn't have some games and all that, but I'm not really into that kind of stuff and it works perfectly for what I use it for. Plus the UI is gorgeous.
American only
aren't windows phone apps written in c# or something
it seems like ms really dropped the ball on modding with windows mobile and as a result there's no real reason to choose windows over android unless you just really like the metro interface. though i'm almost certain that it's possible to recreate the metro interface on android so i'm not even sure if that's a valid argument.

yeah but android kicked off with an api and modding tools and great documentation ready from the get-go, didn't it? it seems like android was designed with developers in mind, and with wp7 ms is just retroactively working to bring their product up to par.

I switched from Android because I had this Samsung Galaxy S and it was an unstable piece of shit. Apps crashed all the time, phone was slow, and well I really didn't enjoy it at all. So that's a valid argument.

i have a galaxy s and it runs perfectly even on stock rom, so it sounds like something you did to be honest

not to mention thats really a hardware issue, not much to do with the android platform itself anyway
ATT on 4G? HA! With their 2Gb Limit...
Sorry, but a 16 MP camera? What's the fucking point other than being able to make large prints which will probably look terrible anyway?

It's to get all those customers who think pixel count = quality.
I can't wait to take Myspace-angle photos in glorious 4920 x 3264!
Oh, and pictures of my cats!
But really, that's sort of impressive. Too bad there's NO ZOOM.
It's to get all those customers who think pixel count = quality.
And then you hear news how they have released a new, smaller sensor.

Should have gotten grandfathered in.
Enjoying my Galaxy SII with UNLIMITED EVERYTHING. WEEEE.
Fuck high MP cameras. Sure it's hi-res but the focusing is shit and pictures don't look all that good
Oh I just read that the HTC phone has LTE support, even though WP7 doesn't even support it yet. Nice one.
Hopefully they'll release whatever the new version of WP before the phone releases.

On a phone, but not on a camera. I have the 5D mark II which takes 21 megapixel pictures. I need this because I sell posters & canvases & shit in 5600 x 3700 px.
Of course if the phone has horrible optics and bad ISO sensitivity then it's all pointless.

The funny thing is, is you're spot on about the pixelation of the camera. What most people don't realize is that the number of megapixels really has nothing to do with quality of picture past 12 megapixels, it's the size of the chip interpreting the shot. The closer the chip interpreting the light of the picture to 30mm film in size, the higher quality the shot. The number of megapixels just allows you to blow the picture up to a larger size. 16 megapixels could make a picture the size of a wall really.
16 megapixels is worthless unless you have the decent optics to help it.
They may be cool but they can't really compare to Android/iOS.
I disagree, the biggest thing WP7 lacks that the others don't is apps.
Beyond that it's preference. WP7 really excels at having loads of info in a central area that is extremely easy to access. Good for me if you're texting a lot, checking your emails often, etc.
480x800 over a 4.7 inch screen? Lol.
[editline]9th January 2012[/editline]
Next they will tell us it's a PenTile screen too

2 gigabytes, how quickly will an average phone user burn through that wathcing videos on YouTube?

It said that it's probably coming with a new build of Windows Phone, as the latest update (mango) doesn't support LTE.
And in fact, it does have a newer, transitional build:

People "recreate" interfaces from other devices all the time and they NEVER end up well, they are ok at best but never really run free from all the bugs. I also don't see how it using C# as it's language of choice is a bad thing, I program in C# almost exclusively these days and the documentation on it is outstanding. I've also tinkered with the Windows Phone Developer Tools, and those are FAR from lacking, they're extremely easy to use, and you're able to create games quickly and easily through XNA. Most popular games people would care about are already on the Windows Phone (Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies), plus a plethora of other useful apps.
I won't say I haven't looked back and thought about getting an android phone, but my only reason for that is the customization, and then I remember that after about a day I stop caring about customization. With windows phone I get on my phone and get what I need, no bullshit. I love it dearly.
MIPS has the right of it.
That's 16 megapixels, but with shitty optics and a tiny sensor. Pictures aren't really going to look any different from any other phone.
I don't understand how large MP is even a selling point in phones or point and click cameras. your pictures will still look like shit, only now they're bigger so they take up more storage space and take longer to process
