‘Skyfall’ Box Office Crosses the $1 Billion Mark Worldwide
It’s no understatement to say that this year’s James Bond adventure Skyfall had something to prove. Four years had passed since the previous installment, Quantum of Solace, which many consider a lackluster follow-up to Daniel Craig’s 007 debut in Casino Royale. However, with Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition) at the helm, Skyfall scored with both critics and fans, with many claiming it is among the franchise’s best entries.
Now Sony has announced that the film has earned more than $1 billion worldwide. This makes it the first film in the Bond franchise to reach that total and the highest-grossing film in Sony Pictures history. However, even with this hefty box office take, Skyfall is the 14th film to hit this milestone and the third 2012 film to do so, following The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. Of course, a pair of James Cameron films – Avatar ($2.7 billion) and Titanic ($2.1 billion) – still sit comfortably atop the list.
Domestically, Skyfall has earned $289.6 million, while $710.6 million accounts for ticket sales overseas. However, those totals are in flux, as the film is still currently in theaters. Skyfall has yet to open in China, where it will debut on January 21.
While James Bond films are typically blockbuster affairs, something about Skyfall has struck a particular chord with critics and moviegoers. This is likely due, at least in part, to a magnetic performance from Oscar winner Javier Bardem, who delivers one of the most memorable Bond villains in recent years. In fact, his character of Silva has been touted as the best onscreen baddie since Heath Ledger’s iconic turn as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
As for the future of Bond, Skyfall co-writer John Logan is already signed to pen the next film in the series, and Daniel Craig will play the superspy for at least two more films. There’s no telling whether or not subsequent Bond adventures will be able to match or exceed the success of Skyfall, but you can bet that Sony is going to do everything they can to catch lightning in a bottle for a second time.
Bond 24 (obviously not the official title) is slated to hit theaters sometime in 2014.
Good, was a great movie.
Saw it yesterday. Definitely deserves it, it was a great movie.
Also, Q is a white Moss.
I think it was the worst Bond movie.
Too much Drama, not enough action
I'm sorry, did you not see how much fucking action there was in that movie?
Seriously, it was a ridiculous action movie, and it did it spectacularly well.

whoa TOO MUCH STORYLINE IN MY MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fucking yes, Skyfall really deserves it. Daniel Craig was brilliant, and Judi Dench performed wonderfully

call the cops they attempted to incorporate a story
Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace both seemed to be in too much of a rush to put the old films behind them like a lot of rebrandings do as a matter of course.
Skyfall was fantastic in its own right, and it did the best job out of all three in addressing the long line of Bonds behind Craig in a meaningful, satisfying manner.

I have a feeling you haven't watched old bond films recently.
Kinda disappointed there was not much bond car action.
The whole movie was cool making call backs an references to older movies.
For example, the new Q, after giving Bond fingerprint tied gun and small radio and Bond remarks on their simplicity and Q responds:
"Were you expecting an exploding pen? We don't really work on things like that anymore."
And Aston Martin making an appearance halfway through, in all its pre-2000's glory.
I actually like Daniel Craig's Bond movies more than the others.
But I don't know if its because I'm young and can't enjoy the special effects of older Bond movies or if Craig is just the best actor of the lot.
It was missing an epic car chase scene, that would've made it perfect..

Craig is pretty close to the original Bond of the books I hear.

quantum of wallace has action, watch that.
This movie has style written all over it, such a great film too.
It was alright.
I think the only problem I have with the movie is the dark and edgy atmosphere. It took itself too seriously, and giving Bond a dead-parents backstory was just a fucking awful idea. It was like something out of a Nolan flick. Otherwise, it was really good.

He always had a dead-parents backstory...
Thats great. Skyfall was phenomenal. Easily the best out of the Craig-series thus far, and up on my list of top five Bond-flicks. It was so good.

Whether he did or not, they never made a huge deal out of it until Skyfall.

I thought fleshing out Bond's character was a great idea.

Skyfall is meant to be closer to Fleming's books in terms of atmosphere. It's not surprising that you got a glimpse into Bond's childhood; anyway it was well-done. Get over it.

Older bond movies had way less action than Skyfall did.
Also I hope they follow up on their setups at the end of Skyfall in the next Bond movie, with the new M and [sp]Moneypenny[/sp]
Kinda disappointed there was not much bond car action.
True, but busting out the classic DB5 with machine gun headlights and ejector seat was a nice touch.
Pretty much from the minute they revealed the car up until the end was a fantastic thriller.

Do you realize how stupid it is to say "Get over it" in response to a completely valid point? It's about as mature as saying "your a poophead" or "I know what you are, but what am I?" Either way, it wasn't really well-done. Bond never seems to give a shit about it visibly, so what's the point of even bothering with it?

Bond's childhood being presented well or not is a matter of personal opinion.
I think it was done well.
I also think you're a poophead.

So is lashing out and rating people dumb when you disagree with them, and anyway you're trying to sneak in an assertion that your point was valid when it wasn't. Poophead.
The point is that Bond doesn't give a shit about it. He's uncomfortable there because of the memories associated with it that he'd locked away. The scene and atmosphere were fitting and well achieved. It's not bad because thick-headed morons like you don't understand it.
I saw it last night, the cinema was still fully booked out for it.
I really loved the style the highlands in the dark looked with the fire, really a great cinematic atmosphere.

The fuck? MI6 taking in orphans and training them was literally the entire point of GoldenEye.
