Dutch populist leader Geert Wilders has launched his election campaign by calling some Moroccans "scum".
Mr Wilders tops opinion polls ahead of the 15 March parliamentary vote, but has seen his lead reduced in recent weeks.
He has vowed to ban Muslim immigration and shut mosques if he wins.
His latest comments come two months after he was convicted in a hate speech trial over his promise to reduce the number of Moroccans in the country.
Mr Wilders addressed his supporters on Saturday amid tight security in his party's stronghold of Spijkenisse, an ethnically-diverse area near Rotterdam.
"There is a lot of Moroccan scum in Holland who make the streets unsafe," he said. "If you want to regain your country, make the Netherlands for the people of the Netherlands again, then you can only vote for one party."
He emphasised that he thought "not all are scum".
According to the 2011 census, there were more than 167,000 Moroccan-born residents of the Netherlands, making up the third-largest group of non-EU residents, a figure that does not take into account second or third-generation Moroccans.
"And some, I assume, are good people."

Oh yes, the infamous single a4 sheet of paper that requires somewhere like 3 constitutional amendments to realize.
Also probably worth mentioning that he's one of 3 parties that won't let his party programme get analyzed by the CPB, big surprise.
Also worth mentioning that all other big parties are forming a cordon sanitaire around Wilders. So, even when he gets the most votes, the chance of him becoming prime minister or taking part in the coalition government is very small because nobody wants to cooperate with him, unlike let's say Le Pen who could win the French presidency.
Is there any appeal to these far-right populists beyond their attitudes towards Islam?

All I see are people ranting and raving about immigration with no reference of their thoughts towards matters such as social programs and healthcare.
populists
Either party that's a bad thing.
No new facts then?
I mean, he literally had a meeting with supporters where he asked "Do you want more or less Moroccans" then proceeded to agree with them and saying that he will do it.

It was a genuine question on my part. In the US the Republicans are able to marry their brand of identity politics with other issues like religion, guns, taxes, and regulations. Do the far-right parties in Europe have other platforms that are gaining in popularity or is it purely their anti-immigrant stance?

Some nebulous "anti establishment" nonsense

Anti-immigration, anti-EU (which is obscenely stupid in our case) and, in his case, what he refers to as 'leftist hobbies', like art, culture and foreign aid.
I take solace in the fact the dude won't ever get in government even if he does have the biggest party in the end. None of the other big parties, that he'd require for a majority, are willing to work with him.
Strategic voting so x doesn't get into power round 2.
We really don't have to. If he's the biggest, he gets the first shot at trying to form a government. Other parties will stonewall him, he won't be able to form anything. Then the rest gets a chance to build a coalition.
this guy gets more radical each election *sigh*
wouldn't it be absolutely hilarious if the amount of seats he wins is incredibly disappointing
I feel like it's a possibility, looking at developments in other European countries
over here predictions can also change dramatically in a very short time, and maybe the polls show more PVV support than there actually is
Or maybe I'm just way too optimistic idk
At least our system of forming a government is very good at softening the blow if your ideological 'enemy' gets to govern
He'll most likely not even get to govern at all even if he wins a bunch of seats lol
Strategic voting so x doesn't get into power round 2.
It is very very shit that the strategic choice is the VVD for many people, at least at the moment
fuck them
The thing right now with politics is who ever is anti-EU is gaining popularity no matter how extreme and it's because the EU have systematically destroyed various nations sovereign rights to benefit its own political elite.

Erm, what? What sovereign rights has it destroyed?

I dont see what the issue with Moroccan?

Absolute fucking nonsense. What sovereign rights? What political elite? The same political elite now campaigning for this populist vote, that vows to share the interests of the common man while gutting welfare and filling their own already stacked pockets?
Erm, what? What sovereign rights has it destroyed?
The Far Right is now convinced the Liberals (and Progressives) want to destroy democracy because they think you guys Want to do a Global "Utopian" Socialist Dictatorship.

D66 seems like a good choice too

I don't like their stance on a lot of things. But they have always been the voice of reason and thoughtful progress. They have my vote.
I'm 22 and never voted, but I'm gonna make sure to vote for PVV this year.
And no, that doesn't mean I agree with everything Geert says and wants to do

but why
Is populist slang for racist now?
Is populist slang for racist now?
It might as well be. "Populist" in these cases means "Populist for the white populace".
It might as well be. "Populist" in these cases means "Populist for the white populace".
It's a pain in the arse coz a populist like bernie sanders is great but it seems to be applied 100% to corrupt arseholes at the moment.

So you want to vote for someone who doesn't have a party programme (and if you think a single sheet of a4 paper labeled 'concept' constitutes a full programme, you're fucking delusional), refuses to explain how he'll do anything, won't let his programme get vetted by the CPB and has said 'just vote for PVV and we'll take back our country'?
...why?
now now let's take the foot off of the gas for a bit and discuss his choice after he's told us what's compelling him to vote for Geert
what is with these right-wing cunts all having terrible hair? he looks like mao zedong
