I've seen this video before and I'm still not sure what is so interesting about it. It's a neat process I guess. Would have liked to see the finished weld too after he was grinding it down at the end. Also, crazy echos in the background there.

Can't they just make one long rail instead, from start to end station?

Also, they have to replace these things, its easier to replace 1 section than to replace an entire single piece rail network

I thought rail segments needed small gaps in between them to deal with heat expansion?

you can hear the far sides of the rail dink, that's pretty cool
