This has passed the facepunch popularity-hatred boundry and has entered hate mode, sorry bout that. Was expecting a video where some guy had a hostage, and just shot him and the music stopped. That might've redeemed it.

this was never funny to begin with
this was never funny to begin with
You know a me-me's passed critical threshold (I.e. turns into sharing it on FB and making even shittier parodies) whenever you type the first letter of it into YouTube and it's the first suggestion
A meme has passed it's lifespan when collegehumor has mentioned it.
No, collegehumor one was one of the first ones to be posted in the #whitepeople thread, they got on the bandwagon early this time. But once it hits facebook en masse is usually when facepunch hates it. The names of the communities is added irony.
my university is trying to do one tomorrow. It has passed its life span. That was fast.
this was never funny to begin with
It was absolutely hilarious but now it's being overdone, everyone and their mother is trying to make one. They lose their luster very quickly.
This died as soon as it left filthy frank normally I enjoy some fads after FP is done with them but in this case it was the reverse
I think the problem with fads like this is that these days people make videos, like harlem shake, specifically in a format that can be quickly and easily replicated by anybody with a camera, like it's been engineered to gain viral popularity as quickly and efficiently as possible. With some fads you don't expect it, and so when people then go and parody it it's funny, but from the very first harlem shake video you could already tell what was going to happen and I feel that kinda ruined it for me.
At this point new HS videos can only be funny if they do something different. No one wants to watch a new video when they know exactly what is going to happen. Someone should take footage of a sports game where a player made scored and did a dance, then when the bass drops skip to footage of fans going nuts once they've rushed onto the field. This would be clever because the source isn't forced.
Is Harlem Shake gonna be the new Gangnam Style?
Is Harlem Shake gonna be the new Gangnam Style?
Unfortunately, most likely
I still love this shit
if someone takes any hostages for real anytime soon they should definitely force them to do a harlem shake video
This is the only Harlem Shake I need.
Yea this has definitely passed into the mainstream. People at my school are wanting to make another unoriginal one for our schools weekly broadcast made by students. Its fucking retarded. It was funny at first when no one knew about it, but now its out and I hate it. I don't even know why but once every body sticks their dick in it, it be comes tainted. What makes this worse is that my girlfriend wants to be in the video, as well as have me too. :suicide:
Some of them are funny, I was watching it with my friends and it gets old pretty fast but, there are some that were cool.

It becomes embarrassing and dumb once it's mainstream because it either becomes a massive annoying repeated meme embedded in dumb cultures, or is simply overused/unoriginal.

When everyone can make it, it doesn't become funny. References aren't funny. You have to put work into it.

Well I found it funny when well known/interesting people like CollegeHumor and the firefighters did it but it's not so funny when everyone and their dog decides to make one "just because".
Some of them are funny, I was watching it with my friends and it gets old pretty fast but, there are some that were cool.
I personally like the one with the Norwegian Army soldiers.
Remember when internet jokes would take forever to get noticed and would stay funny for a lot longer
Remember when internet jokes would take forever to get noticed and would stay funny for a lot longer
no
I like how some of you guys analyse it. "Facepunch begins hating X trend when Y event happens." How about a simple "I don't find it funny anymore because it lost it's humour to me."
my university is trying to do one tomorrow. It has passed its life span. That was fast.
Same here. Our college newspaper wants to document it too. At least this one is probably going to die pretty fast.
they are only funny to watch with no sound
