Voxelnauts: one universe, infinite worlds, with possibilities limited only by your imagination. Your adventure awaits - come play it - come build it.
Inspiration for Voxelnauts is drawn from the threads of the novel Ready Player One, virtual reality, and the melding of retro gaming with the games of the future. Voxelnauts is an MMO Sandbox RPG that allows you to do anything, be anything, and go anywhere.
I didn't want to make a thread in GGD due to it being a kickstarter project right now. It seems pretty neat.
A Voxel Sandbox MMORPG in Early Access
Sorry, as pretty as it looks, I'm not gonna touch it until I have real gameplay from non-developers.
It's not early access? It's a kickstarter project currently trying to get funded that got announced a week ago.
Looks like they're combining No Man's Sky, Minecraft and Oculus. Not saying it's not a winning combination, but it seems more of a "let's try and make a lot of money really quickly by combining popular ideas" project than anything else.
I dunno though, if they can find creative solutions for griefing/drawing dicks everywhere, fix the world loading within sight, and do something innovative with questing or content creation it could be fun. Also did anyone else think the spaceship looks like something out of DBZ?
so minecraft + cubeworld + scribblenauts?
how creative...
Let's hope there's zombies too.
Every game needs zombies.
I won't back it, but I'll probably play it.
More dumb pixel / voxel shit yay

This is exactly what indie games need. :v:
hey, might be better then starbound.
They have John Su on the art; which gives me a lot of confidence in the artistic direction of this. Unlike minecraft.
The character art, monster designs, and object designs look super cool, but I'm really not a fan of the minecraft-like worlds.
It would be neat if they came up with something a bit more creative in that department.
Isn't this the game that was being advertised by a spambot here a while ago?
tbh, the market is over saturated with games like this and every time i see a new one i feel like a dinosaur.
Voxels are great and all but just leaving it as blocks has been done too many times already. There are ways to dress a world like that up so it doesnt look so blocky.

"I judge games by their art style / technical specs"

Well that just entirely depends on the preference of the developer, but you're free to not like it.

What a great waste of my 11000'th post
It caught my interest where they said that you can import 3D models into the game. The game might be worthwhile just to see the weird worlds people come up with.
On the other hand, I feel like they're focusing so much on the creativity that there might not actually be much to do. I hope the combat has more detail than minecraft, but the video did not address that. I think for this game to work, it's going to need player created quests at least.
I need more information about what they plan to do before I'll back this.
Did anyone ever play Voxelstein 3D? Someone needs to come along and make a proper badass voxel game like that.

That's pretty much the deal breaker for me. Seems like a cash-in more than anything.
It looks alright but couldn't they come up with a better name than Voxelnauts?
It looks alright but couldn't they come up with a better name than Voxelnauts?
yeah perhaps vox-life
and if this game is really is a persistent universe where its a freaking huge world then i am for this...the fact that the graphics quality is bad means it should be able to have a huuuuuuuge universe...i just hope it can be online too
anyway star citizen you guys
There's a lot of potential for voxel-based games if people would stop looking at Minecraft for inspiration. You can get things things like micro-voxels, voxel/mesh hybrids to create smooth terrain (ex: 7 Days to Die), nice fast fluid physics (ex: Seed of Andromeda), voxelized building debris (ex: Enemy) etc.
I wish more devs using voxels as a game base would try to do more creative things with them rather than fat blocky minecraft worlds, there's a lot of potential for things like micro-voxels, voxel/mesh hybrids to create smooth terrain, really fast fluid physics like in Seed of Andromeda etc.
People are focusing on the wrong thing to rag on here to be honest, never mind the visuals, the actual gameplay looks awful from what they've shown.
That combat shot with the melee action or whatever it was looks like it was lifted straight out of minecraft, a game with horrible combat which amounts to literally nothing more than point and click.
Not to call them lazy or anything, but damn, those are some lazy devs.
At least the art is going to be interesting, unlike Minecraft, but can nobody really produce a game with interesting gameplay AND art in this domain of Minecraft-clones?

no, we're in the age of indie cashgrabs
I'll hold my breath for now. However i will say that the character models are gorgeous. Wouldn't mind them working on the animations a bit more though since it still has that "minecraft" movement that just doesn't work with anything other than Minecraft models.
200K for this might be stretching it a little much, though.
I liked the intro music, almost stopped watching when it revealed itself to be a minecraft clone, but music is spot on for an open world rpg.
