• Buying a camera, is this one any good?

I know there was just a similar thread on the subject but I have been lead to believe that thread hijacking is a bad thing. Even if I'm in error by making a separate thread, don't comment about it unless you're a moderator. Anyways, I'll be buying a camera sometime mid summer, with a budget of around $650. I'm not into photography that much (yet?) or film making but I want a solid, good camera that I can bring with and take fancy photos or video my kittens or stuff like that. things I want from it -Ability to take high quality photos (hurr) -Ability to take high quality video -Good build in optical zoom cause I don't wanna spend loads on lenses I have been looking in to a Canon Powershot SX1 IS due to good reviews but I'm far to ignorant in this field to do any legitimate research into other options, opinions are very much appreciated. Again, budget is $650 but it's not an absolute limit, I can stretch it.
My uncle has a Canon Powershot SX1 IS He says it's the best camera he has ever owned :v:
Canon EOS 450D. Sometimes called Canon Rebel XSI.
So you just want a point and shoot camera?
So you just want a point and shoot camera?
I want a good camera, that does photo and video at high quality. I dont know what a "point and shoot camera" means. [editline]10:01PM[/editline]
Canon EOS 450D. Sometimes called Canon Rebel XSI.
Gonna look into it.
What he means is: Do you want an SLR, or do you want something more like a normal kind of digital camera that most holiday makers use? I'm not positive as to whether the 450D can film or not. [editline]09:10PM[/editline] Ok, it can't really. It can only film if you use a special program while it is connected to the computer, not worth it.
I feel like an idiot but I'm not sure what it is you're asking. By the "normal camera" do you mean a compact digital camera? If so, No. A Premium compact/superzoom is what I'm after, similar to the SX1 IS. I am going to buy the SX1 unless someone gives me a good reason not to or gives me a better alternative in the same price range.

Don't get it because the sensor is fucking tiny and you'll get shitty low-light performance. The lens on it really isn't that good, at the far end you're going to get a lot of barrel distortion, and at the wide you'll get severe pincushioning. Along with that, some pretty intense CA all over. Get a Rebel T1i, it'll be a bit more money but it's a lot more camera, you get a properly sized APS-C sensor, instead of the shitty 1/2.3" sensor on the SX1. The only downside is you'll lose the telephoto side, you'd have to buy a new lens for it, but the telephoto side of the S1X isn't that great anyway. You'll gain a proper optical viewfinder, much better low light performance, a faster framerate when shooting, and better optics. It would fall in between the smallest and second smallest sensor, the APS-C is the canon one.
We have a thread for this already, linked in the section sticky. I'd lock the thread, but I'm on my iPhone right now and iPhones suck balls with internetting. Please visit the thread and ask any further questions there.

I never visit creationism corner and search doesn't work so locking would be pretty silly.
I know it was moved, which is why I politely mentioned the mass-thread and such. I'm also locking the other thread just like this, if I let them sit here and keep getting bumped there will be a string of 'which camera should -I- get?' threads popping up because they think it's OK. Nothing personal nil. Hope you find the camera for you soon.
