This happened recently in my town, from what I've heard it was a great restaurant. Sadly I never got a chance to go there before this tragic event happened. Source: http://www.richmondandtwickenhamtimes.co.uk/news/8998841.Tributes_to_Richmond_restaurateur_who_died_after_collision_with_cyclist/
The elderly founder of a popular restaurant has died after being involved in a collision with a cyclist. Fernando Izquierdo, 81, died on Sunday from injuries sustained in the collision outside the Poppy Factory in Petersham Road, shortly before noon on Thursday, April 21. Mr Izquierdo, who set up Spanish tapas restaurant Don Fernando's close to Richmond station in 1990, was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, with suspected head injuries, but died at 10.10am three days later. He had been visiting Richmond from his home in his native Spain for the funeral of his brother Pepe on Monday, April 18, after he lost his fight against cancer, and had been due to fly back this week. His nephew Felipe Izquierdo, 38, who works at the family-run business with his sister and Mr Izquierdo’s children, said: “He was larger than life - a very charming man. “He was a great front of house man.” Despite an upsetting few weeks, Mr Izquierdo said they had kept the restaurant open because it was what the two brothers “would have wanted”. Mr Izquierdo was born in Andalucia, in southern Spain, and moved to England in the late 50s with his brother Pepe. With a background in running restaurants, the brothers opened Don Fernando in Richmond in 1990, which has continued to run as a family business ever since. Despite moving back to Spain following his retirement, Felipe said his uncle, who has four sons and 12 grandchildren, would often come back to visit the restaurant and his family. Police and ambulance crew were called to the scene of the incident at about 11.55am, following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a cyclist. The 41-year-old cyclist received minor injuries and was treated at St George’s Hospital, Tooting, before being discharged. No arrests have been made and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward to help with their investigations. Detective Sergeant John Hartfree, leading the investigation, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or the events leading up to the collision, to speak to our team. “Petersham Road would have been very busy at this time of day and I am sure there would have been many people in the area who would have seen this incident.” Anyone with information should contact Hampton Traffic Garage on 020 8941 9011.
The area he was hit is next to a downhill road where cyclists can get up to high speeds, so it is likely he was hit by someone travelling at least 25+mph. Reminds me how one of my teachers got a speeding ticket on a bike.
I'd feel horrible as a bike rider if I killed someone after hitting them.
That's really sad.
I doubt it was the cyclists fault, really. It's just a very unfortunate accident.
this is why bikers are faggots, they dont give a shit and do stuff like this and why? OH DERP HUER IS GREEN SAVE THE PLANET :)
this is why bikers are faggots, they dont give a shit and do stuff like this and why? OH DERP HUER IS GREEN SAVE THE PLANET :)
:colbert: Can't wait till you're age is 18.
Fuck bikers.
What's more tragic is he was going to his brother's funeral :frown:
Most bikers I've met around here are huge dicks, then again most of them are hyper HYPER liberal college kids, so it's to be expected I guess. Feel sorry for this guy though, knowing I hit some old guy with my bike and killed him would feel terrible. Damn shame.
Fuck bikers.
If one driver drives over a person does that make every car driver in the world an uncaring asshole? And I would like to point out that the guy who hit him likely isn't an asshole. You should be ashamed of yourself for thinking of everything in black and white like that.
:colbert: Can't wait till you're age is 18.
It only made me hate bikers more. Now that I can drive a car, bikers are the most dangerous thing in the planet, they don't pay attention to the road or other traffic, they don't let me know what direction they are going to, cocky as fuck while on the goddamn thing and if they hit MY car they blame ME for driving into them.

Oh wait, yes you do.
My experience with bikers is all negative bullshit as they always ignore traffic rules.
cool, more anecdotal stories
For all who are blaming the cyclist may I remind you that my area has the most cyclists in London and is full of people who ride road bikes or fixies, if he rode the latter it's likely he didn't have brakes. I go down that hill often and overtake cars, it's difficult to slow down even with breaks.
cool, more anecdotal stories
oh no a person judges something by his experience with it what is this far fetched madness
Fernando Izquierdo, left, was visiting the country for funeral of his brother Pepe, right.
What a recursion! Very sad. But it's kinda hard to hit someone on bike? If I'm going to run on someone, I jump off the bike and stop it.
What a recursion! Very sad. But it's kinda hard to hit someone on bike? If I'm going to run on someone, I jump off the bike and stop it.
The cyclist was going down hill on a steep slope, and was probably riding a fast road bike.
oh no a person judges something by his experience with it what is this far fetched madness
your statement seems to generalize bicyclists you're telling me that every bicyclist you've encountered has ignored traffic rules?
a majority. which is why I dislike them.
a majority. which is why I dislike them.
how many bicyclists have you encountered, and how were they ignoring traffic laws?
how many bicyclists have you encountered, and how were they ignoring traffic laws?
not keeping to their bike lane. unpredictable moves. not indicating. going through stop signs and stop lights. i've found cyclists don't give a fuck in my area because they don't get fined
a moron driving a 3,000 pound car is far more dangerous than a bicyclist
That doesn't matter when it is his own freaking fault is it? I meet over 150 bicyclists a day, most of them don't even fucking pay attention to the road. Even when I am walking down the street they use the sidewalk that is dedicated to pedestrians to bike on. I even had a few run in to me while I was on foot.
this is why bikers are faggots, they dont give a shit and do stuff like this and why? OH DERP HUER IS GREEN SAVE THE PLANET :)
What the fuck, cyclists are not all the same type of people, it's just a cheap way to get around, it doesn't make them any sort of person.
not keeping to their bike lane. unpredictable moves. not indicating. going through stop signs and stop lights. i've found cyclists don't give a fuck in my area because they don't get fined
so some bicyclists don't follow the rules therefore it's okay to generalize all of them
What the fuck, cyclists are not all the same type of people, it's just a cheap way to get around, it doesn't make them any sort of person.
I don't know why, but being on a bike is just a giant asshole generator or something. I did the same shit that I complained about, until I started driving a car and noticed how dangerous it is.
Fuck bikers.
"a white person shot and killed a hispanic person at a grocery store" "fuck white people" do you see why your mentality is ridiculous?
