AN Afghan soldier who murdered three Australian troops has lost his final appeal against the death penalty.
The fate of the remorseless killer, Sgt Hekmatullah, now rests in the hands of the families of those he killed and the Afghanistan’s recently-elected president.
The secret judgment against Hekmatullah, which the country’s Supreme Court has consistently refused to discuss, was confirmed by diplomatic and prison sources in Kabul and also by the killer himself during a jailhouse interview this month as part of a Four Corners investigation into the incident.
I take it they have the same thing as Pakistan where the families of their victims get to choose the punishment?
Shit I remember this
"Killer, Sgt Hekmatullah, says he would murder again if released"
k whatever

Especially in light of this:
Hekmatullah has requested the families forgive him but has also vowed to kill again,
You gotta be a special type of sicko to ask for a second chance while admitting you'll just use it to kill again. And a special type of stupid to think anyone would let you.
Good.
He must want to die, I mean jesus who the fuck would say that shit
If I was him I'd be bawling my eyes out asking for forgiveness
I don't want to swing from no gallows bro
Normally I'm not one to support the death penalty but he killed three of our diggers and would have no worries killing more if he was given the opportunity
let him hang
um he killed soldiers not diggers idk what ur talkin about

digger is Aussie slang for a soldier who came from either Australia or NZ.
ADF soldiers are referred to as diggers as well
Secret orders circulated by the headquarters of the US-led military coalition in Afghanistan were not passed on to Australian soldiers before three diggers were killed in an insider attack in August 2012.
The orders warned of the heightened threat of green-on-blue attacks, and gave orders for "immediate force protection enhancement".
The three diggers who died - Private Robbie Poate, Lance Corporal 'Rick' Milosevic, and Sapper James Martin - were gunned down by one of the Afghan soldiers they had been helping to train.
An inquest into their deaths ended in Queensland on Friday.
The three soldiers were part of a 24-man platoon which was sent to a remote outlying base, Patrol Base Wahab, deep in the Taliban stronghold of Darafshan.
When they arrived at the base, they discovered it was impossible to segregate themselves entirely from the Afghan National Army soldiers who had occupied the living quarters.
The diggers set up camp near the entrance to the base, and on the evening of August 29, 2012, as many of them were relaxing, Afghan soldiers – some of them armed – wandered in and out of the Australian area.
Slang term for soldiers, came about with the First World War and the trench digging.

I suppose that's what happens when you open a thread and pause to read the article before replying.
I don't think he was being serious.

He probably wasn't, but this isn't the right place or time for those sort of jokes. Bad taste.
Why? You might be angry at Western forces for marching into your country, I can understand that, but why kill them? Why threaten to kill again? Why then beg forgiveness whilst simultaneously saying you want to kill again? Honestly, I'm not sure that this guy is entirely stable.

I agree, posting is a real serious job.
