Travelodge removes bibles from every room in their 500 hotels

One of Britain’s biggest hotel chains has removed Bibles from its rooms to avoid upsetting non-Christians.
The decision by Travelodge has been condemned as ‘tragic and bizarre’ by the Church of England, which says Bibles in hotel rooms are important to provide hope, comfort and inspiration to travellers.

Now where do I hide my money and travel documents?
"I couldn't sleep last night knowing that the Good Book was with me the whole time."

In the safe?
Shit. No more free bibles.

No one did, they've had no complaints, they just decided to do it
It's the same with all hotels in the U.S. too. No real point in removing them, but no point in being there either.

You've got to be a bible belt tier Christian to complain about this, I mean seriously who gives a shit.
While its silly to complain about something like this, there's literally no reason for the bibles to be there in the first place.
Want a bible in your hotel room?, ask.
Fuck putting books there, people can bring their own, where are the consoles and netflix?
now what do i read before i overdose in a £19 hotel room
I was just thinking about this while I was on vacation last week. Why have them? If you are so religious that you read the bible every night why wouldn't you just take your own bible?
Now what am I supposed to do when I'm bored and need a laugh?
Replace them with a quran and embrace the shitstorm
THE WAR ON CHRISTIANITY RAGES ON
Because the bibles in the drawers were just cramming themselves down your throat, right?
well, the tradition of those bibles started with the Gideon christians, and they were relatively active in their prosteltyzing, which is why they left so many gideon bibles behind where ever they stayed when they traveled. Hotel chains just continued with this tradition.
To say that having a bible, a holy book of anyone religion isn't showing a clear choice of religion than I don't know what is. Shoving it down your throat? No. Needlessly there anyways? Sure.
They made the decision. It was theirs to make. Whats your problem with them removing them?
Now well have to wipe our asses with toilet paper.

Beat me to it. Fuck
The only source for this is the Daily Mail, and they posted this less than two hours ago. I can't find any independent reporting on this.
I'm a little hesitant to believe this until I see it elsewhere, because the dog whistle in this story is [sp]muslims made them do it[/sp], true story or not.

Shit, cheapest hotel room here is $170/night right now
if you dont like it, bring your own. dont see a problem with this.
How is providing a holy bible in each room insult one that follows another religion? This sounds like the visitors go into the room, spot the bible, jump on the ceiling and hiss at it (I am aware the article states that there were no complaints. This is my bad joke detox session.).

you can pick up £29 rooms in the holiday inn like 3 or 4 months in advance, and you can book like a fortnight before and get a £25 room in a easyhotel or pay £29 to upgrade to one with a window

It's a common practice, actually. Apparently most hotel bibles are provided by a Christian group called the Gideon Association, who dedicate a lot of their time to providing new hotels with bibles. I've read that they've distributed at least 1.8 billion copies since they started doing so in 1908. As I understand it, the bibles are paid for by donations to the group, rather than out of the pockets of hotels.
I don't have a problem with this. It's as senseless as it is harmless and at the end of the day is just an archaic tradition that only adds the possibility to offend some high strung social justice warrior.

In the same way that it would be annoying if they had posters in the rooms saying "join christianity". Yes you could just ignore the poster, but it's still there and it's still obnoxious.

I paid £50 for a room in a Britannia hotel that was three floors underground. The TV didn't work and still had the analogue aerial plugged into the back (the analogue signal was replaced with digital in 2007).
