• My experiences with car tax and why it should be paid

Well, I'll cut it short, December 20th '09 I get a phone call off a mate saying he is selling his Rover Metro 100 for £200, I said I'll take it. Jan 6th I buy the car cash just after pay day. He sends off the log-book part about a new owner. I was told to declare it SORN Statutory Off Road Notification).. I phoned up my mate to see if he had already done it, apparently his mom did it for him while he was at uni. (I wasn't able to check because I didn't have the log-book, nor was it in my name). The log-book arrived on Jan 26th '10. I had my test a few days after. Thinking I would pass I just left it parked outside my house (on a raised curb - thinking it was "off-the-road"). Well I didn't pass. I was too scared to get in the car and move it incase a neighbour dobbed me in it or the police caught me. So i just left it there. Cut to 2 days ago. I come back from uni to see a nice yellow DVLA clamp raped around my wheel and a big fuck-off yellow "UNTAXED VEHICLE" sign super-glued to the windscreen. ----- I shit myself. I read the documents they glued to the windscreen (mind you it was snowing and it pretty much rendered the papers unreadable).. so yeah I skip through it.. and it says they're gonna charge me £260 for the release of the clamp (I can get back £160 if i produce a valid tax disc withing 14 days). I have 24 hours notice from when they put the clamp on to pay the £260 or they will tow the car which will cost another £100 PLUS £21 /day until the car leaves the pound. So that night I take out insurance, which cost £250. I tried to get tax over-the-internet but of course it didn't work, apparently it was showing I didn't have insurance and I had to wait 24hours-ish until their database updated itself. Skip to yesterday. I had my driving test at 9:17 (which I failed by something which wasn't even my fault.. 2minors and 1 'dangerous' major.. fucking lorry driver swerved into my line, i steered left to try to counteract it, but i went into the left hand lane and cut up a car.. so trying to save me and the instructor I failed.. great).----- So yeah, I wake up at 7AM.. I hear a lorry at the back at my house.. I see the DVLA towing lorry-thing, they just eye-up the car and I watch them drive off. I'm practically shitting myself throughout my entire test 'cus of my car and all that shit. I fail my test, drive home and as I get in my street I see my car on the back of the same lorry I saw in the morning. I motherfucking emergency stop in my teachers car, almost take out the fucking lorry, ask the lorry driving wtf he's doing.. he says that they've given me 24 hours notice, but i tell them it's only been 18hours.. they told me to pay over the phone now otherwise they will tow it away.. So I had to pay £260 for them not to tow it. They tell me regardless that I have just paid £260 for them to unclamp/tow my car.. they will clamp/tow it AGAIN withing 24-fucking-hours if it is not taxed/moved off-road. I try to tax it online again. FAIL. Today at uni I went to the post office to get it the tax sorted.. the woman told me that "an error message has popped up.. saying there has been a gap of 2months of the car not being tax OR declared off-road" she then tells me the DVLA will be in touch with me.. and I am liable for a £1000+ fine for the offense PLUS another £80. I paid that motherfuckerwhore £65 for 6 months road tax. I literally run fucking home to find the SAME FUCKING PERSON WHO I PAID YESTERDAY with the clamp in his hand, I literally jumped over 3 cars, almost got him by 2 of them.. opened the car and STUCK the tax disc in the holder BEFORE he put the clamp on.. He told me if I was 5 mins late he would clamp and charge £260 again. So, now I am to expect a letter from the DVLA who will probably fine me £1000+ and possibly a CCJ against my name. All because my mate lied to me about declaring it off-road and because apparently I parked it on a "public road", personally it's my fucking property and not fucking public. I've paid over £800 in 2 days and am expecting another £1000 soon. I have £13 in my bank now. It is my 20th birthday tomorrow. Payday is next friday. I have a road-worthy, taxed, insured P-reg piece of shit which I STILL cannot drive. Right now.... FML. Srsly. Also, because of shitting weather in the UK recently and there being loads of cancellations my next test is the end of April.
Your mate's a cunt.
That was definetly not cutting it short.
When you got the clamp off the first time why didn't you move it somewhere else? Put it in a garage or something so they can't fuck with it.
your 20 years old and havnt passed your driving test yet? i passed mine when i was 17
I had 5000 euro. I bought a Ford Ka off a friend for 450. One year on I have nothing left in my bank. I fucking hate cars. But there so fun. Fucking Ford Ka.

Give up your guns and get fucked in every orfice. I suggest you find some nitric acid, some glycern, and get to repairing your shitty ass control grid country. Get an oxy acetylene torch and cut it the fuck off, never pay insurance or anything else again.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GHwKLhIpa94 Remove the fucker
That's pretty much how it was. Except I'm not polish. The man was a fucking a-hole as well. Kept getting in my face and he'd spit in my eye ball every other second. It's just fucking annoying. They are pot-holes the size of houses and they "haven't got enough time" to fill/fix them but they do have enough time to clamp, wait 18 hours and begin to tow it? I hate how everything that costs them money is draaaaaaaaaaagggggggeeedddd out for ages but the moment they want money.. BAM it's theirs. Sorry, I was meant to cut it short but well i didn't really happen :l
That's not fair, I'm sorry.
I lold hard.
Hahaha, apparently you're the only one who gets it, I guess.
This is why you don't buy cars from friends or family, it always ends up going bad.
OP you should take it to small claims. If they didn't wait 24 hours they can't legally proceed with making you pay any more. Furthermore, it is not your responsibility to update the DVLA databases, so that is a failure on their part. Futhermore even though you tried to tax it, they wouldn't let you. They literally cannot fine you or give you a CCJ.
I bought a Saxo furio, i haven't received insurance documents yet and it isn't taxed, It's on the roadside too, because I cannot park it in the garage. I'm kinda worried but I am hoping to get this insurance letter tomorow so i can tax it tomorow!!!! Although your car was roadside one month... I've had mine 2 days, I'll be lucky
The DVLA are cunts. :argh: I have to send back my registration documents because my middle name is listed as "Mark" and not "Mack"
contiuing my thing i doubt anyone would care on (but mack would :) ) I moved my car into the garage paintfully.. no more vans clampingme
