The Sophisto Gray 550i -- the only one in this country -- was among six Bimmers stolen in three heists at the Port Authority-owned lot in Jersey City and at a private facility in Elizabeth, sources said. The $90,000 sedan was driven off early on March 13 from the BMW Port Jersey preparation center in Jersey City. It was supposed to go on display at the New York International Auto Show. At least three thieves broke into the lot just after 2 a.m. and drove off in the 550i, a 535xi and a 650i, sources said. They returned Monday night and swiped a 750Li xDrive. On Wednesday night, the gang is believed to have swiped at least one Bimmer from a company facility in Elizabeth. They used the term "Beemer", which refers to BMW motorcycles, instead of "Bimmer", which refers to BMW cars. They called a 750Li xDrive a 750 LXI. They thought that a Sophisto Gray 550i was a special edition 550i, something called a "550i Sophisto". I fixed those errors to prevent misinformation.
