The list of organizations Sony's going to be answering to about the PlayStation Network security breach is growing with alarming speed. The latest addition to the horde is the United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, which sent a letter to executive deputy president Kazuo Hirai yesterday with a number of inquiries about the nature of the breach, as well as the company's response to its consumers' collective exposure. The letter, which was penned by subcommittee chair and California representative Mary Bono Mack, imposes questions including why the company is unsure whether users' credit card info was taken, as well as what steps Sony's taking to prevent future breaches. We're assuming that the question of "When's the PSN coming back online, because some of us are trying to get some Portal 2 co-op Trophies over here," was omitted, as it was found to not be "governmenty" enough.
The Letter http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/30/congress-sends-inquiry-to-sony-about-psn-security-breach/ Sucks to be Kazuo Hirai right now.
Oh man, this is just great. All that arrogance just wound back up and slapped Sony right on the face. Then again, they're not the only ones hurt with this. Hopefully things get fixed quickly.
didn't see this coming back in January/Early Feb.
Don't get me wrong, it absolutely sucks that all that information was taken and I'd hate if it happened to me, but I can't help thinking every time more info on this pops up, "how does this affect Sony's showing at E3?" I mean, in some ways, this is a bit like Sony's Horizon Oil Spill - Shit just keeps getting worse, and no amount of words and presentations will ease the pain. If they're not at E3 because of this, I wouldn't be surprised.
ty
you sure are a jerk
IF he gets caught. Someone capable doing this is most likely a sneaky bastard
Transferring that much data leaves traces. Big traces. The more proxies the guy used, the longer it takes them to get closer to him. It's still entirely possible to track the guy down. Though, if he had any sense - for doing something like this he would have bought a laptop (cash) and sat near an unsecured network and done the job through that (Under a couple of proxies too) and then dumped the laptop after the jobs done.
His username is mad_gay. Don't take him seriously

As bad as this has all been, the only way they'll recover their monetary losses and PR image is to get themselves back out into the public eye in a positive light.
So they're definitely bringing Kevin Butler then.
Why wouldn't they? Kevin Butler is fucking incredible.
Why wouldn't they? Kevin Butler is fucking incredible.
Kevin Butler is a marketing gimmick more transparent than Lucas from the fucking Wizard. I can't see how you people could possibly have any sort of affection for him.

I bet Gabe Newell is feeling silly. Finally decided to say he likes PS3 and then all of a sudden they have a huge fuck up.
