Yeah[/QUOTE]
That would've been true before Death Magnetic, but Metallica have made an honest attempt to go back to their roots, even though Death Magnetic wasn't that good.
I thought Death Magnetic was pretty decent, especially for an old metal band
Metallica didn't sell out. If anything, they did the exact opposite.
People wanted them to play thrash metal, but instead they did something they wanted to do. James has always been a country boy and it shone through in Load and ReLoad. To play just what the fans want is selling out.

It's about fucking time someone said this!
I saw a great video about this the other day. You can't be called a sellout for playing what you want instead of playing what makes you popular.
Here it is

Agreed. Fucking hated the Black Album, loved Load and Reload. Would have been interesting to see where they went from AJFA if they'd continued on the thrash road though
I saw Metallica being posted from miles away.

i think the reason metallica so called "Sold out" was really due to bob rock. he pushed them to make lighter more grungy\hard rock music as opposed to metal\thrash metal. The black album was a great album, so i consider load their "Sellout" point. all the black album needed was that "Dirty" kind of production that previous albums held. it was way to clean

He truly is crazy
it's not selling out, it's buying in
He's proof that even incarcerated murderers can be celebrities
@mikey
radiohead sold out in their first album
they then stopped selling themselves out at around 1998

Dull and overplayed, undeserving of the legacy it has considering the albums following after it which get shit on every day of the week.
I dont think there is anything wrong with selling out.
The problem is that when bands sell out a lot of them give into what the record label wants and not what they want.
Slayer sold out and they're doing fine. Mastodon sold out aswell.
