Im 19, I guess you can call me the last "pre-facebook" generation. I still cling to forums like a newborn Koala, frequent the ole IRC, and actually miss the craptastic Geocities. Yet I have a knee-jerk reaction to dismiss facebook users as sheep, and twitters as people who don't have anything better to do with their lives than to barf up old stories that noone cares about. I (used to) find cloud services to be cheap gimmicks and considered a phone that tried to do more than a simple call flamboyant and wasteful. The problem is, I hate that I feel this way in that I can't fully embrace all this new tech. without considering it "below me". I guess you can call me an old-school nerd...
Edit:Holy hell I realize I sound really pretentious, I meant to say that It takes me a while to accept new technologies if it makes it any better lol, maybe i'm just really suborn ;p

its called being stubborn and pretentious
nah old-school nerds did shit like building radios, tinkering with electronics, and getting into areas like engineering from an early age.
nowadays nerds are just neckbeards who watch anime and my little pony and shitpost memes everywhere
also you sound like the worst hipster ever.
Lol, Agree'd to both of you, I guess someone can't realize how bad they are making themselves look until they've read their own posts a few times:v:
Im a facebook fagget
"I was a nerde before you guys were nerdes"
you're extremely pretentious because you think all of this somehow means you're better than other people
I use facebook for the same purpose as AIM
and forums ain't dead yo

Pretty much describes MIPS
I'm just like you OP. Except I wouldn't really call my self a nerd, it's just a opinion to not like certain things though.
Pretty much describes MIPS
Very much so.
you're not really a nerd just stuck-up and anti-social
more importantly, very prone to having abuse thrown at him.
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dork
one time I overclocked one of those singing greeting cards.
You know who else is an old school nerd? My Dad, and nerds like him. He used to have a 4mb hard drive back in the 80s. 4 megabytes, and he'd fit tons of small games on his computer. Now look, we've got shortcuts for games that are probably twice that size.
Nah you're just a hipster
Im 19
Old school? Dude shut up.
-Snip-
Wall of text written out of anger.
Congratulations, you sound like most grandparents.
I guess I'm old school too.
no you are also conceited and by reading what you posted it's easy to see you're bitter because it was likely you weren't socially accepted at a young age and that behavior was enforced and became contempt for others.
you probably don't have a life because you sound exactly like the kind of person who gets off on being spiteful. you should probably change that because it'll just make you even more bitter in the future when you look back and miss everything, and you will because that's what bitter people do.
maybe if you weren't so conceited and bitter you'd be socially accepted more?
You aren't pre-facebook generation, you are the facebook generation. I'm only barely pre-facebook generation, and I'm 23, I am part of the myspace generation. And the only thing to miss about geocities is the free hosting.
Either way, get a Zack Morris cell phone, wear thick rimmed glasses, and buy some scarves to fill out your hipster closet. Oh and a secret iPhone your parents will pay for.
how's he a hipster?
that's it, fuck this, i'm taking the word hipster back. you assholes have misused it and now it means nothing anymore.
wall o' text
I was originally going to agree but then you lost me.
Your post made me think; Remember those movies where the kid is watching tv, and then the grandpa is like "back in my day, we read books and they were better." Then he reads a kid a book and his head explodes with how amazing books can be? let's remake it and replace books with BBS and IRC chats
I'm a sheep who likes talking to friends.
Baa! Baa!
how's he a hipster?

Not really. It's just that it now means "someone who tries to be different". or whatever
let's remake it and replace books with BBS and IRC chats
but you only like it for the cool factor which is totally BS. BBS and IRC fucking suck ass and i used to use them when there wasn't anything better.

indie kids and hip-hoppers are not hipsters though you can't just fucking crash pop culture into one pile of shit.
Actually, in high school I was fairly well known. I had a bunch of friends, we went places all the time and did shit, then after high school, your life changes. You realize your priorities change. You've got to get a job, got to get your own place, take care of your education, etc.
After high school, I really got into computer work as a way of bringing in extra cash. My friends didn't like the fact that I had to work all the time, especially on computer projects, so now we don't talk. What's the point of going out and doing shit if you're broke all the time? What's the point of it?
Also, the late 1990's / early 2000's were great. A boom in technology was happening, music was halfway decent, etc. Then something happened. I don't know what it is. Music wasn't as good anymore, people started to act like total assholes, etc.
I think the fact is, I'm not willing to go down to the level of being a social douchebag in order to get friends. It's not being rude or arrogant, I just can't stand how people are now.
For example: The other day when I was working, some kid came in and asked me, "Where are your light bulbs? I said, "Well, I believe they're in aisle five, however there are some at the end of aise..." and he rudely interrupted me and said, "Whatever." and walked off. Same as in the mall. I needed to pick up some new pants last Sunday, and this group of people were blocking the walkway. I kindly said, "Excuse me." And they just stood there. "Go around man."
Also, those wondering: I'm 26. It doesn't seem old, but anyone who grew up in the 90's knows that it was a much better time.

I was joking, I've honestly never used either.

hipster-hoppers?
i'm a crushing bore
no i think the fact is you made your life suck ass and now you try to intellectualize it and excuse it by insisting it's not you it's everyone else.
sorry dude, it is you. if everything's shitty it's because you suck. if you don't like anyone and think in order to get friends you have to be a social douchebag that's just you making up excuses for being bitter and socially inept.
if you are so absolutely fine with not being social or whatever why would you be complaining and think everything sucks? you're just making excuses for yourself. the ego comes off of your post and that probably also makes you a terrible person to be around with. who the fuck abandons their friends like that? answer: a shit friend.
you're not the first one to talk that way and you are definitely not the first one to feel miserable about it when it's way too late.

hipster-hoppers don't exist they can't mingle.

this reminds me of a recent episode of south park, where stan becomes a cynical asshole.
