• ‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ Script Might Be in The Works
One of the 10 Star Wars spin-offs we at Screen Rant want to see is an adaptation of Knights of the Old Republic, the first installment in what has become of the largest video game properties under the LucasArts branch. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic released for the PC and original Xbox back in 2003 and remains one of the best Star Wars stories ever told. It’s based 4,000 years before the events of the Star Wars films in a time where Jedi and Sith are commonplace in society. The game was a success in the eyes of fans and critics, and not long after its release there were rumors it could be adapted by Lucasfilm, potentially launching a movie series that would be entirely separate from the core Star Wars saga. Outside of the prequel trilogy, 3D re-releases and the animated Clone Wars series, the franchise film began to fade until last fall when Disney acquired Lucasfilm and began planning out what’s going to be an even bigger Star Wars saga going forward. The latest scoop on that front – if we can call it that – comes from a mysterious and unsubstantiated email Harry Knowles of AICN received from what sounds like someone at the game developer BioWare, claiming that writer Drew Karpyshyn (of BioWare fame), one of the more popular writers of the video games industry, may be developing a screenplay for a Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) movie, based off the game series of the same name which he also helped write. Knowles’ last scoop about Yoda being the first character to get a solo Star Wars film has since proven false, and this scoop similarly has nothing official going for it.
http://screenrant.com/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic-script/
Awesome. This has lots of potential. The only change that they would probably have to make is to narrow down the cast to 3-4 main characters, because otherwise there wouldn't be enough time to develop any of them. You don't have dozens of hours to work with as in a video game.
Yes! I still don't understand why the Female Exile is canon, the game is so much more interesting character-wise if you're male.
written by drew karpyshyn too? that's awesome [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline]
Yes! I played as a female all the time and never knew it was canon.
Gonna remain doubtful on this one. KOTOR has dozens of hours of story and character development, it will be really really really very tough to summarize even one character into a 2 hour movie.
If they have it as Episode 1 of the Old Republic being the Mandalorian War, Episode 2 being Revans journey to the dark side, and 3 being his quest back to the light it could be the best story told in film form. Unlike the prequels where Lucas butchered the entire franchise.
I hope T3-M4 is in it.
I just wish they would make a non mmo Old republic game
You gotta bring back Bao-Dur's voice actor.
I'd rather have a KOTOR 3 game, but if this retcons TOR that would be awesome. Also, it better be a trilogy with a Mandolorian Wars, then a KOTOR prequel during the Jedi Civil War and then a movie where KOTOR 3 should have happened.
I have faith in this with Drew Karpyshyn writing it.
BETTER HAVE SLIMY SEWER ZOMBIE CREATURES.
written by drew karpyshyn too? that's awesome [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] i think it's better, not enough female leads in sci fi imo
I agree, but just talking about kotor 2 here As a male you: Have Atris hating you and going crazy because you chose to fight in the Mandalorian Wars over her. You pick up the Handmaiden who is also[sp] Kreia's daughter[/sp] Darth Sion towards the ending is almost competing with you for Kreia's attention. Jedi Jesus As a female: You can pick up the Disciple character who replaces Handmaiden You can dance for Vogga the Hutt ... It just isn't as interesting as the male playthrough, yet it's canon because of TOR now.
I hope this actually goes into production. I swear to God I would go to the midnight showing as Dead-eye Duncan
i think it's better, not enough female leads in sci fi imo
Yeah, but then Atris' fall to the darkside makes no sense, and you don't even really see her again afterwords. Also I just wanted to shoot myself when I took Disciple along.
BETTER HAVE SLIMY SEWER ZOMBIE CREATURES.
fuck rakghouls
You gotta bring back the Bao-Dur's voice actor.
I saw his VA the other day in Malcolm X, he shows up a lot in Spike Lee films and I just now realized that Bao-Dur's face is based off of his.

Now if only they could get him to speak louder this time.
Can we get someone who's not Drew Karpyshyn to write the screen play? He's done enough damage to the series. To those rating me dumb read Revan and play TOR
Hope they put in the Kolto factory on Manaan. One of my favorite parts of the game.
You pick up the Handmaiden who is also[sp] Kreia's daughter[/sp]
WHAT. i've played that game i don't know how many times now and i NEVER SAW THAT SHIT WHAT
You pick up the Handmaiden who is also[sp] Kreia's daughter[/sp]
How did I miss this on my many playthroughs?
BETTER HAVE SLIMY SEWER ZOMBIE CREATURES.
Taris is soooo bad (kotor of course, not swtor).
The latest scoop on that front – if we can call it that – comes from a mysterious and unsubstantiated email Harry Knowles of AICN received from what sounds like someone at the game developer BioWare,
Jesus people, read the article, this is almost without a doubt not true, and even if it is, the odds of it ever coming to fruition are even lower (the email only even claims Karpyshyn is writing a script, not that he's gotten it picked up by anyone major or anything)
that shit isn't even in the wiki
You pick up the Handmaiden who is also[sp] Kreia's daughter[/sp]
That's not ever confirmed, it's left pretty ambiguous. I imagine that it'd have been more fleshed out if they'd have had enough time to finish KotOR2 properly. [sp]Brianna's[/sp] (Handmaiden's) mother is [sp]Arren Kae[/sp]. It is never actually revealed if [sp]Arren Kae and Kreia are one and the same, though.[/sp] Both were [sp]tutors to Revan[/sp], so it is possible that they are the same person. The disciple and Kreia tell you about her, so it's kind of strange, as you only get the disciple if you go with a female character.
those last 2 posts are exactly why its such a good element [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline]
How did I miss this on my many playthroughs?
this and
WHAT. i've played that game i don't know how many times now and i NEVER SAW THAT SHIT WHAT
this
How did I miss this on my many playthroughs?
There's a lot of hints to stuff tucked away in KOTOR 2's dialogue, most people miss it I sure did, the only reason I know most of it is due to this Lets play which explains everything in the game.
written by drew karpyshyn too? that's awesome [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] i think it's better, not enough female leads in sci fi imo
artistic integrity should not be compromised because you feel the need to fill quotas that are unfilled by other games. the interactions the female PC gets are pretty bad, I mean, come on, Mical is one of the worst characters in the KOTOR series.
written by drew karpyshyn too? that's awesome [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] i think it's better, not enough female leads in sci fi imo
Female exile was established as canon when Lucas Arts hated the game so it's not realy a positive.
