A survey of 6,000 schoolchildren has found widespread misconceptions about the number of immigrants and non-white people living in England, as well as negative attitudes towards Muslims and those born overseas.
The study, believed to be the largest of its kind to be carried out in the UK, found that 60% of the children questioned believed it was true that “asylum seekers and immigrants are stealing our jobs”, while 35% agreed or partly agreed that “Muslims are taking over our country”.

The average estimate for the percentage of foreign-born people living in the UK was 47%. The true figure is 13%, according to the 2011 census.
Nearly a third agreed with the statement “Muslims are taking over England”, while 41% disagreed, and on average respondents thought Muslims made up 36% of the population, as opposed to the true figure of around 5%. Almost half [47%] agreed there are poor relations between Muslims and non-Muslims in England.

loads more shit in the article
christ
It's kind of depressing how people always default to "it's all the foreigners's fault!" on so many issues.
Kids are absolutely terrible when it comes to politics, so I'm not surprised.
ARE Muslim women oppressed though? Not going by UK/US/Western muslim standards, but by the standard of most muslim women in the world. Don't most live under a patriarchal society? Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc.?

Ehh, under their standards, it's iffy. Koran gives women a lot of rights that they didn't have in Arabia circa 600AD but nowadays, no one really seems to pay attention to those rights.
Now do the same survey to adults.

Hopefully they'll grow out of it, I know I was a little racist(and homophobic) shit when I was a kid but then I stopped being stupid, of course if their parents keep pumping shit into their head they might not grow out of it.
Am I the only one who doesn't see the racism in that chart?

No not their standards; OUR standards. Human rights are human rights regardless of your religion.

Yeah they might be wrong, but if you look at the newborn kids around 25% are of foreign origin (according to some news articles, correct me if I'm wrong).
Theyre also schoolchildren who haven't fully grown up yet

"muslims are taking over england", people who voted yes
"muslims contribute to a positive society in england", people who voted no
Is this really racist though? I can't help but feel this article is a bit biased in lumping racism with anti-immigration.
And the stats don't really show much that seems shocking
"muslims are taking over england", people who voted yes
31 people out of 69 in some way think that they are
"muslims contribute to a positive society in england", people who voted no
Only 19 out of 101 in some way disagreed with that statement

Aren't there supposed to be issues in England and the rest of Europe with people immigrating yet refusing to integrate?

Yes.

I can't find the first one.
Second one is either agree or partly agree. Disagree part is only 19 compared to agree at 35
Stop talking out of your ass, it's almost like you're trying to make it more racist than it is.

How is saying "muslims are taking over England" even racist?
There isn't a high opposition to Muslims according to the study, it's a good sign.
For "Islam is a peaceful religion": Partial Agree + Agree = 49 | Disagree + Partial Disagree = 14
For the "muslims taking over england": Partial Agree + Agree = 31 | Disagree + Partial Disagree = 41
For the "muslims contribute to a postive society in england": Partial Agree + Agree = 34 | Disagree + Partial Disagree = 19

45% is quite a lot and 20% is quite a lot for such statements

Shockingly racist, overwhelming majority agrees that newspapers can contribute to racism and that stereotypes are dangerous.
I also question the writing of the first question.

Anti-immigration is almost always focused on the shitty and unfounded belief that ethnic minorities are trying/threatening to steal societal control away from the poor, disadvantaged, and oppressed white people.
ie. in the US a lot of people are so concerned of mexicans tikin urr jerbs and muslims oppressing the christian population, that these groups are reduced to inhuman caricatures to justify racist dispositions and shitty laws instead of maybe considering that those minorities are people in shitty situations trying to make life better for themselves and their families.
It also BOGGLES my mind that the majority of republicans that hold these views are christian, but they completely ignore the most basic tenets of their faith and succumb to completely unjustified fear.

Article is kind of sensationalist. The majority of school children have an anti-bigotry stance, as opposed to the majority bigotry stance implied in the article. Of course, those percentages should be lower, but no one should expect a 100 percent figure.
I feel that there are many issues with this study, such as which people were sampled and where they were from, their class and other important factors. These aren't stated and I'd be correct to suggest that since it's The Guardian, they're hardly going to hesitate pushing their own left wing agenda. Besides, the statistics are not nearly as bad as they're trying to play it off, not to mention 6,000 is smallish sample size to make such conclusions.
Am I the only one who doesn't see the racism in that chart?
It's The Guardian twisting words to make it a better story.
The original title was "Study into attitudes of young people reveals widespread misconceptions about immigration".
The source ignores the fact that between a third and half of the children answered "don't know" for a lot of the questions.
Fact is that this is pretty much twisting a study to make out that loads of children are racist, when for many of them, they simply don't know (or find muslims/immigration very relevant to their lives).
Certainly to me and most of the people in my school (with a few exceptions), nobody really gave a shit about religion or immigrants.

Forth question is true, though.

can you really not see how the media depiction of immigrants in an anti-immigrant country can end up going along ethnic lines though? almost all tabloids here have been fostering a specific image of immigrants from eastern europe/africa/the middle east devastating the country since the 1980's or so, and if the formative years of the USA have shown anything it's that caricatures are inevitable. and when the common idea of a middle eastern guy is a brown dude with a beard and a turban who's peeling apart the country's moral fiber, yeah, that's gonna pretty racist at some point.

While I don't doubt some people are racist and then subsequently anti-immigration, I think it's disingenuous to assume that all anti-immigration is racist.

I don't get why so many people find anti-immigration to be on levels of Satan. There are limits as to how many people a country can support while also upkeeping same living standards.
I grew up in a really white town, so a lot of the kids in my school and stuff were never exposed to any ethnic diversity at all, so as you'd expect there was a lot of ignorance since they just didn't understand people who were different.
Kinda sad what people are teaching their kids nowadays
