• Yet Another Lockdown Scare; Central Connecticut State University in Lockdown after Armed Man Spotted
One person was taken into custody at Central Connecticut State University, a public university in New Britain, after a massive three-hour police search for a man who was reportedly carrying a gun and the lockdown has been lifted. A source with the state earlier said state police have contained a suspect within James Hall on the CCSU campus. Now, a police source tells NBC Connecticut that everything is secure and they are speaking to several people. The Twitter account for CCSU's office of marketing and communications reports that one person is in custody and the shelter in place order remains in place until police give an "all clear." All classes and events for this afternoon and tonight have been canceled and a news conference will be held at 4 p.m. CCSU issued a campus emergency alert this afternoon after a potentially armed man was seen entering one of the halls at CCSU, according to police sources. NBC Connecticut crews saw police escorting someone out of James Hall in handcuffs. It was not immediately clear if this is in connection with the massive police presence on campus for much of the afternoon. A student also reported seeing two people escorted, but officials have not confirmed that. New Britain Mayor Tim O'Brien has been on the campus and said there are no injuries to report. When school officials issued the alert, they asked everyone on campus to seek shelter, stay indoors, lock doors, close windows, keep quiet and put cell phones on silent or vibrate as police search for a suspicious person. They said there had not been a shooting and there was no active shooter. Soon after the alert was issued, sate police said they have a "number of troopers" at the scene at the request of CCSU police. Tactical and SWAT teams have also responded. Witnesses said police were running with long guns, telling students to take cover. Two students reported seeing a masked man in camouflage walking on campus with a sword and carrying a backpack away from his body. Whether this is connected to the alert is not yet known. Residents of James Hall report hearing an alarm go off, then police knocking on doors and telling students who live on the first floor to evacuate to nearby Carroll Hall, which is across the quad. Officials from the governor's office said earlier today that Gov. Dannel Malloy has been briefed.
[thumb]https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/1003527_10151943089999330_976758094_n.jpg[/thumb][thumb]https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/1397070_10151942963604330_762392129_o.jpg[/thumb] Source: NBC Connecticut

Sure it just wasnt someone with a poptart chewed in such a way it kinda resmbled the letter L?
jesus fucking christ what's the deal with USA and school shootings
jesus fucking christ what's the deal with USA and school shootings
Well it makes you famous in a really bad way. It's something only someone with extreme depression and or a mental illness would consider.
I live really close by and I was texting one of my friends who goes to CCSU during the thing happening. Shit was scary.
jesus fucking christ what's the deal with USA and school shootings
when you got nothing to live for and you hate the world and you're crazy, what better way to leave the world then being immortalized by the media?
THIS IS WHY GUNS SHOULD BE BANNNNNNED!!!!
jesus fucking christ what's the deal with USA and school shootings
Nothing really. Mass shootings have remained fairly static for decades. The FBI releases the UCR each year and mass shootings remain fairly static. They also remain statistically insignificant. http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/crimestats It is media coverage that has altered our perception here, not reality. Here is a more friendly link, because going through the crime reports is a pain: http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/dataondemand/165757356.html
holy shit I live down the road from CCSU and I thought I heard the police.

Instead of huddled in one big group?
They also remain statistically insignificant.
Erm
Erm
In 2010, a total of 16,259 homicides were committed. That's over 44 homicides per day. A few additional deaths on any given day, while tragic, is just a blip as far as the national crime rate is concerned. It's the media that turns one nut shooting, say, two people into a national tragedy, while a street shootout in Chicago that leaves five people dead barely makes the local news.
Hey, I'm a weapons fan (Own a Glock, a Taurus .357, a belgian hunting shotgun, and a crapload of argentine .22's) but, doesn't the easy availability and access to weapons in the USA encourage/fail to lower this kind of incidents?
