• Romney: Income inequality is just 'envy'
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- According to Mitt Romney, the nation's growing focus on income inequality is all about envy. "You know, I think it's about envy. I think it's about class warfare," the leading Republican presidential candidate said Wednesday on The Today Show. When asked if there are any fair questions about wealth distribution, Romney replied, "It's fine to talk about those things in quiet rooms and discussions about tax policy and the like." Romney has accused President Obama of promoting the "bitter politics of envy." The president is ramping up his talks about the nation's growing income divide and the shrinking of the middle class. He is focusing on the tax benefits afforded to millionaires and executives. Romney, who is one of those millionaires, is taking a different path. He says he's distancing himself from what he calls "a very envy-oriented, attack-oriented approach."Instead, he is talking about making America a merit-based society, rather than an entitlement society. "I believe in a merit nation, an opportunity nation where people by virtue of their education, their hard work and risk taking and their dreams -- may be a little luck -- could achieve great things," he said Thursday at a campaign rally in Florida. A growing number of Americans are latching onto the idea of income inequality, which prompted thousands of people to participate in Occupy Wall Street-type protests around the nation last fall. About two-thirds of the public believes there are "very strong" or "strong" conflicts between the rich and poor, according to a Pew Research Center report released Tuesday. That's up 19 percentage points since 2009.
Source: http://money.cnn.com/2012/01/12/news/economy/romney_envy/index.htm?hpt=hp_t2 "Silly poor people"
Says the millionaire
Misleading title, he's actually saying Obama is using feelings of envy for class warfare and to garner support
I agree with him! Rich people earn all the money they make! I envy them because I am a 45 year old man who has been working the same mid-wage job for my entire life, making a meager living as I wait for the wealth to trickle down~
Guys, remember he probably doesn't really think this. He'll flip flop to supporting the little man within the month.
Misleading title, he's actually saying Obama is using feelings of envy for class warfare and to garner support
Which isn't that different
Which isn't that different
There's a difference between breaking down someone's campaign strategy to emotion appeal and saying people who are suffering and complaining are just jealous
That's not what he said, is it? I thought he was saying that he disagrees with Obama's approach to income inequality (inciting feelings of envy among the lower-middle class to reduce the gap) and saying that taking a merit-based course of action would be a better idea (which I assume means working hard to become successful)
Which isn't that different
I think there's quite the difference between the two
"I believe in a merit nation, an opportunity nation where people by virtue of their education, their hard work and risk taking and their dreams -- may be a little luck -- could achieve great things,"
Education requires a lot of money. If you don't have money, you won't go to college, and you probably won't be as successful as someone like Mitt Romney because of it.
mitt romney is right its time to put our envy aside and storm the federal reserve with automatic assault weapons we must take back the wealth that is rightfully ours
Education requires a lot of money. If you don't have money, you won't go to college, and you probably won't be as successful as someone like Mitt Romney because of it.
Which is why public education and government grants exist
Education requires a lot of money. If you don't have money, you won't go to college, and you probably won't be as successful as someone like Mitt Romney because of it.
If you're not rich you won't get rich Gotta love the world's logic
Which is why public education and government grants exist
University should be just as public as elementary, junior high, or high school. As long the costs for the student are through the roof, and for-profit colleges exist, it is a travesty.
Which is why public education and government grants exist
Public education would only get you through high school. You need big bucks to go to college. Scholarships and grants are essentially luck based. You generally don't get a scholarship for being the "best" at something because the pool of applicants is so huge they basically draw a name out of a hat. Even if the "best" did get them, what if you were only second best.

Fuck you, Romney.

Poor people do envy the rich people, who wouldn't? But it's much more than envy. For some people, they can't get out of poverty. There's no way out. Example: Someone who is college aged, lives in a home with their dad and 2 younger siblings, dad makes very little and has health problems, needs to stay behind in order to care for the family.
mitt romney is right its time to put our envy aside and storm the federal reserve with automatic assault weapons we must take back the wealth that is rightfully ours
Not funny.
Misleading title, he's actually saying Obama is using feelings of envy for class warfare and to garner support
no he's saying the whole nation is focusing on the issue out of envy then goes on to blame it partially on Obama and btw, this:
The president is ramping up his talks about the nation's growing income divide and the shrinking of the middle class. He is focusing on the tax benefits afforded to millionaires and executives.
is hardly using feelings of envy because whether you're poor or not that's bullshit, hence outspoken millionaires like Warren Buffet. Yeah. "Envy."
it's trickling you just aren't receiving the trickle correctly stop it do it right and you'll see
You're probably holding it wrong.
Misleading title, he's actually saying Obama is using feelings of envy for class warfare and to garner support
oh that's even more stupid.
What he is saying is that Obama is garnering support by hitting an emotional nerve with people, by getting them all riled up with feelings of wealth inequality and class warfare.
I was waiting to see the words "class warfare" and......
"You know, I think it's about envy. I think it's about class warfare," the leading Republican presidential candidate said Wednesday on The Today Show.

What he is saying is that Obama is garnering support by hitting an emotional nerve with people, by getting them all riled up with feelings of wealth inequality and class warfare.
You can kind of do that when you're opponent is a man with millions of dollars in offshore bank accounts and refuses to show his tax returns even though they're supposed to be on public record. And he kind of destroyed government records while he was governor.

If you lot of idiots would have just ignored the movie star in the presidential race polls, this Reagonomics bullshit wouldn't have ever happened.

Is there some kind of intelligence test that you have to take to be a Republican, and if you pass it, they don't let you in?
