Pirate Bay founder Gottfrid Svartholm is a free man again after serving three years in prison for hacking and copyright offenses. His release marks the end of a turbulent and tough period characterized by successive trials, appeals and convictions in both Sweden and Denmark.
Gottfrid Svartholm, also known as Anakata, was a founding member of The Pirate Bay and played a key role during the site’s early years.
He has spent the last three years in prisons in Sweden and Denmark, for a variety of offenses. Last month his prison time in Denmark ended and after serving a final month in Sweden he is now a free man.
At this time Gottfrid and his family prefer not to make any public statements, which is understandable considering all that’s happened, but his mother just confirmed the good news.
His release marks the end of a tough time with several consecutive setbacks.
It all started in 2011 when Gottfrid received a one-year prison sentence for his involvement with the notorious site, which he initially avoided.
Glad he's out!
And the bay still sails just fine.
It's like the Hollywood producers don't know that the PirateBay is a hydra.
A moronic thing to jail a man over anyways. Three years of a man's life for something that didn't even harm anyone.

He went to jail for hacking a tax authority and a bank.

That's jail worthy IMO.

Didn't he try to flee the country too? Or was that another person involved with the Bay?

It's great because not even that many people that religiously torrent use the pirate bay anymore they all have their private trackers that they use, i feel like it's more of what the pirate bay stands for that makes it as resilient as it is.

Pretty sure he ran away to Cambodia.

How dare you say such a thing! He harmed them, he stopped them from from buying their own islands in the Caribbean and buying that 3rd Ferrari.

A punishment that should have never been carried out, finally over.

The context is not in Piratebay, but in actual, genuine crimes he committed.

Shit, I should've read a bit more about this. I apologize for having spoken too soon without fully reading the article.

Usually career hackers will do varying illegal stuff to get paid, he hacked banks and stuff before he had a reasonable source of income from TPB.
I've used this time to create mirror of the piratebay site https://piratemirror.net/
