We The People: Petition to regulate alcohol and tobacco in a manner similar to marijuana
71 replies, posted
Basically, the response to the marijuana legalization and regulation petition was based upon the idea that it can't be legalized because marijuana can harm your body. All of you probably know that the government shouldn't be in the business of self-harm prevention and that they're full of shit. This is a quick petition that is seeking to expose the hypocrisy that Gil Kerlikowske displayed in his response towards making marijuana a legal, regulated substance. When the time comes for the administration to make a response to this, I don't know what they'll say, but I imagine it will be unintentionally hilarious, and I can't wait to see it.
We the people wish to understand and have a serious conversation as to how these dangerous drugs are considered legal when their effects/risks can be far more dangerous than of marijuana.
Shut up, Mr. 3-Posts!!
If I was American, I'd totally sign this!
I'm not sure if you're right about the government's job not being preventation, but it's bullshit that alcohol's legal and marijuana's isn't.

Tobacco should be banned, the others shouldn't
Tobacco should be banned, the others shouldn't
If tobacco should be banned, so should be weed and alcohol.
How about you don't ban shit and let people do what they want.
This peition is completly stupid
My government knows what's best for me :downs:
This peition is completly stupid
Well so is the current legal state of marijuana.
And they refuse to change that.
Jokes gonna be on you when you get alcohol and tobacco banned.
Not going to happen. Too many people are making money out of it.

That'll just start a revolt.
And then the people's opinion will definitely both be heard AND felt.

"Oh fuck guys they took away the vodka REVOLUTION"
I somehow don't see that happening.

Even though we're more advanced these days, doesn't mean we can't have a repeat of prohibition.

Sure, there'd be a lot more crime and smuggling, but when I think revolt I think "Fuck the pol-ice" viva-la-revolution stuff. Not passive-agressive crime where the general idea is to LOOK respectable and not get caught rather than throw caution to the wind.

But the alcohol restriction led to huge amounts of violence which was a major reason for making it legal again.

I thought you guys liked freedom and stuff yet you want to ban everything and if you guys go through with this it will start a trend banning it in other countries
Tobacco should be banned. Alcohol shouldn't. Read about what happened during the prohibition, and see how that turned out. Drinking smaller amounts of alcohol is also good for the digestive system.

Okay good point they do keep ignoring marijuana petitions and appeals to get it legalized. I got a brilliant idea though wait for it
Why not... make a petition for smoking and alcohol to get banned instead??? That'll really teach em!

No thanks, I like my beer.
Jokes gonna be on you when you get alcohol and tobacco banned.
Yeah right just about everyone in the government has some scotch with a cigar. They would be outraged.
Look people, the point is alcohol and nicottine won't be banned, ever. A because too many people make money off it, and B because everybody loves it. What the petition is meant to do is not ban anything, but point out the double-standard that'll stop them from doing it.
It's just to prove a point, not actually do anything.
So wait, this shit is in favor of making alcohol/tobacco illegal?
Jesus, why do people care so much about what people choose to do in private. I understand the problems with public drinking/smoking, but there are certain places to do certain things.
YOU CANT STOP ME FROM SMOKING.

if you banned tobacco, you'd get a situation even worse than the prohibition, it'd be mexico v2 american edition
That's true.

wait do you seriously think that this petition, which seeks to point out the hypocrisy in substance regulation, is an attempt to ban alcohol and tobacco?

noOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
nobody wants to ban anything, this in response to the administration's position on regulating marijuana. the drug policy director stated that marijuana is illegal because it is a harmful drug, ignoring the fact that cigarettes and alcohol are both legal albeit their harmful effects on the body.
this petition is an attempt to get the government to release a legitimate statement on why they think cannabis shouldn't be regulated.
