Scientists from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), CIEMAT (Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research), Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, in collaboration with the firm BioDan Group, have presented a prototype for a 3D bioprinter that can create totally functional human skin. This skin is adequate for transplanting to patients or for use in research or the testing of cosmetic, chemical, and pharmaceutical products.
This would be amazing for burn victims.
3D printing, motherfuckers. This is just a TASTE of what the tech can do.
Also, I recall that certain bioprinters have been able to fabricate new organs, or at least new parts of organs.
now i want human leather boots.
you're welcome
Now you mention it, if it becomes cheap enough to produce quality skin through these printers, it'd become ever more affordable to produce leather clothing. Hell, I'd be game to see leather come back in style through the sheer affordability of it.

am I on a list now because I clicked on this?
The medical application of this technology is amazing. Here's to hoping it will be commercially affordable though.

Or by actual Nazis who inspired the claim.
3D printing has been a blast with my trusty duplicator i3:

Can't wait to see what the future looks like.
Although, what's the point of human leather if nobody died for it.
The Necronomicon wouldn't be nearly as dark and mysterious if Abdul al-Hazred had a bioprinter in his hut.
We've gotten to a point where Repo-Man is now a comedy and we can shove a mighty middle finger to big pharma.
3D printed bits!
Now you can print yourself a waifu
Some day it'll be a thing we can do. But there'll probably be a big hoo-hah as to whether we SHOULD. Like I can imagine a lot of groups being opposed to the fabrication of actual living things.
Just printing a limb, or an organ, or a "prime cut" of an animal probably wouldn't raise as much of a kerfuffle as printing an entire damn animal, I reckon. So we'll probably just do that instead. Though I imagine there'll still be a market for "naturally-grown" meat, where the gourmets and connoisseurs would turn their nose up at 3D-printed tenderloin, saying stuff like "if I wanted my meat printed, I'd go to a goddamn McDonalds!"

Well Bio-3D printing here and this more signs are that Biotechnological revolution is getting closer every year
I wonder if we'll ever be able to print complete animals, that would be really freaky.
IIRC, in the biomedical/genetics field that would probably fall under chimera territory. Usually this means aborting any embryo after the first few stages of replication.

It's like I said a while back; the future's not going to be full-on cyberpunk, it's going to be ribogrunge. (like biopunk/ribofunk only grimier)
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if in 20 years, news outlets will be talking about police raids on "black clinics". Assuming we don't Balkanize ourselves into oblivion beforehand.
Reminds me of the machine they used to rebuild people in the 5th element.

I imagine that there'll be a funny twist to the term "organic" being re-appropriated to mean actually harvested from living creatures and not synthesized from a machine.
"Organic Eggs", "Organic free-range Beef", etc.
I guess I can look forward to being a crotchety old man who'll demand real corn-fed beef at the dinner table. :v:

Pretty accurate, if still a little out there. (warning Milla Jovovich tiddies at the end obvs)

I could see that happening. Kinda like how the Klingons prefer their meat to be fresh, if not still alive, while most Starfleet officers are content with replicator meatloaf and cellular peptide cakes. (...with mint frosting...)
I remember some show a while back that made a bunch of predictions for 50 years in the future. One of the things was being able to print organs, really neat that this tech is getting closer to reality sooner.
So how close are we into making synths?
Jokes aside, is amazing to see the uses of a 3D printer in medicine field, especially for those who need skin transplant.
Hopefully this will only go as far to make replacement parts for people, otherwise this will transcend into body horror and :scream: territory for me.

In general, the scope of what is possible never ceases to amaze me. We could be playing with cellular biology in the near future in the same way we play with raspberry Pi's or Arduino kits.
Imagine kitbashing a living organism.

You can do that now with enough knives, needles, string, and a healthy disregard for the suffering of living things.

True, but it's rather rudimentary and a bit ick.

Think I'd rather spend my day 3D printing lifelike skin flutes instead of hotwiring a computer into a cockroach's brain.
Apparently they've been able to do the same thing with rats and/or mice, to an extent.
Can I add girth to my dick?

That me dream future because I personally dislike Mainstream Cyberpunk glorification within American society.

have you ever studied or delved into the field of biotechnology?
these people have died, again and again. its delightfully complicated stuff.

you can keep your labs! at http://www.humanleather.co.uk/, all our leather is made from free range, happy humans! no cage animals, no GMO's!
