"This is a tremendous invitation," W.K. said in a statement on his website. "I'm very thankful to the Department of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I've never been before. A bunch of people in Bahrain are about to get some inspiring life lessons about partying: The U.S. Department of State has invited Andrew W.K. to the Middle East as a cultural ambassador. According to Andrew's website, he'll travel to Bahrain next month and visit elementary schools, the University of Bahrain, and music venues, "all while promoting partying and world peace."
Here's what he said about his upcoming trip:

fun fact : Andrew W.K. hit himself in the face with a brick to make the album cover
it didn't make enough blood so he had to use fake blood still anyway :v:
no fucking way
I have no idea how to feel about this. I like the guy, but is this really a good idea? I'm unaware of his other ventures, but does he really have the chops to be a Cultural Ambassador?

As someone who lived there for 6 years, I can assure Andrew the people of Bahrain already party hard nearly every night. He came to the right place.
Not sure if serious...
Did we move April Fools day? I don't believe this whatsoever.
He's the perfect man for the job
This might just be what the middle east needs.
The hero that the Middle East deserves.
world peace:
achieved

I'd prefer world partying to be honest.
Reminds me of the part in the Onion movie where a hippie creates peace between two countries.
Most bizzare career ever?
From making Gundam fan albums to Middle East Envoy is quite an interesting take on life, I suppose.
Awesome. The Great Lord of Fuck knows the Middle East seriously needs to party more.
What the hell?

Well, I'm not seeing it on either http://www.state.gov or @ConnectStateGov on Twitter.
EDIT: It is on http://andrewwk.com though. That's the best source I can find right now.

The two go hand in hand, brah.
This isn't serious, right?
As someone who currently lives in Bahrain, I can confirm what Starpluck said is indeed right. We're ready for Andrew.
I just...I just, I don't. I really don't.
Those who say "This makes complete sense to me," you're saying you can really picture the nominatorial officials of the U.S. Department of State having more than one meeting to reach the conclusion to send Andrew W.K. over to the one most politically, culturally, economically, and socially devastated region in the populated landmasses of the earth?
And then you can imagine Hillary Clinton signing off on this...weird decision?
That's really all it is, just...weird. Completely out of nowhere. I don't...I just don't.

Is headbanging until your nose bleeds haraam? This is important
there's no reason to believe this is true until the state department puts out a press release.
I've been told that stuff like this is actually quite common
Being picked as an Ambassador is often how you're rewarded for extremely large campaign donations

Celebrities are often given positions like that.
For example, Kumar is Obamas bro.
Bad news, guys. The power of partying is too much for the Middle East.
I'm just blown away. After a year of planning, the US State Dept. just canceled my Middle East trip because I'm too party.
uh oh
Well now we know how shitty HuffPo is. They reported something about the Department of State without any confirmation from said department, which turned out to be (probably) a crappy joke by Andrew WK to get himself some publicity.
