So I own a 1998 Ford ZX2 Sport, Me and my dad recently replaced the transmission and torque conv. in it. So my problem with it now is that it won't start, I turn the key and the starter just clicks. We took the starter to autozone and had it bench tested and it worked just fine, from there we thought it could be a ground issue. We put the starter back in after sanding all the ground points and cleaned the batt. terminals. Still does not do anything different, It actually started once after all this work but it was revving at 2000 rpm and was making a high pitched squealing noise.
We can't solve this problem so does anyone have ideas or similar situations that could help?

Hows the battery? Might not be putting out enough juice to turn over the starter. Did you top off the fluid in the Transmission? Did you make sure the Toque converter was lubed up with ATF before putting it in?

The battery is good, Trans. fluid has been topped off but i discovered today that its leaking, the torque conv. was also put in with ATF. Although the ATF we put in it was synthetic so i kinda expected some leakage
Check for 12v on the big wire at the starter! If it's there, there's big trouble in little Ford compact.
When you did the transmission, did you make 100,000% sure that the torque converter was properly seated onto the pump??
If not, you could've gotten locked it all up. 0
If this is suspect.. take a breaker bar with a socket and try to turn the harmonic balancer. If it turns over easily, you're ok. If it doesn't... time to take the transmission out and re-seat the TC, and also make sure nothing got messed up!
Reading the 2nd half of the original post it sounds kinda suspect..

I actually turned the motor with a breaker bar yesterday and it turned smoothly, it didn't make any sounds or show that anything was wrong. so we know its not locked up but whatever is wrong has me stumped, personally at this point I'd rather just have it towed to a shop cause I'm getting tired of this car.
whew, well that's a relief at least! Now bust out that multimeter and tell me what we've got on that starter!
