The "Dine With The 99" Bernie Sanders Event Perfectly Embodies The Candidate's Message
Hillary Clinton supporter and renowned actor George Clooney is teaming up with Clinton in April for two big-money fundraising events in California — one event will cost one couple $353,400 for a seat at the table with the two, and the other, a more "modest" $33,400 to dine with the Clooney couple at their mansion in Los Angeles. One Bernie Sanders supported, Natasha Losada, saw this as an opportunity to start an event for Sanders that emphasizes one of his starkest contrasts with Clinton: His campaign is run almost exclusively on small donations. Losada began the "Dine With The 99% for Bernie" Facebook event to raise money for Sanders while staying true to his message of campaign finance reform and grassroots mobilization. Losada wrote on Facebook:
WE THE PEOPLE are tired of big money buying our elections. Bernie does NOT need a fundraiser with millionaires, because he has millions of supporters willing to contribute small amounts to his campaign!
The idea is for people all around the country to hold potlucks that anyone can afford to attend. Everyone is asked to bring a food item and to make a donation to the Sanders campaign. Losada emphasized that donations should be made by individuals on their phones or laptops directly to the campaign, not given to potluck organizers, saying the event is a "movement of individuals" as opposed to a fundraiser.

Truly amazing
Cute idea. Might do some good.
Would be cool if it was catered, though I don't know how much you can get with $27 worth of catered food per person.

A hell of a lot, actually.
This smells heavily of a blog site to me

it's from the news section but yeah the news section looks pretty bad anyways
important to note that this isn't any kind of official event, just a supporter-created facebook event
These are the kind of things that not only energize a candidates base but get people involves in the elections.

We do a pot luck of sorts at work, bring in 5$ dollars and a side dish or 10$. All the money is split between a few guys to do BBQ magic. I'm talking bacon wrapped sirloin, brisket galore, pulled pork. They bring it all in and we feast. Any left over money just goes into our next bbq event.
It's usually more than enough food for everyone to get seconds.
This is awesome, I hope there's one around me
Aw dammit Clooney why you gotta side with Clinton.

He's the poster child of the American Elite.
This reminds me of that thing Andrew Jackson did, even though I can't think of a person more unlike Sanders, I mean they both wanted to break up banks so I guess they have that in commmon :v:

The banks Jackson broke were centralized, government owned banks. Bernie is more interested in private entities such as Bank of America, and it's also for totally different reasons.
I am more surprised that George Clooney and his wife are pro-Clinton. If you'd looked at any of their political positions — they would align closely more Bernie Sanders.
Ridiculous to see the Clooneys' support her. This is contrary to them.

IIRC Clooney is a big time philanthropist and I wouldn't be surprised if he has worked with the Clinton Foundation in the past.
