'GTA 5': Somebody paid a lot of money to keep it off PC, claims Intel

Intel believes that somebody paid a lot of money to keep Grand Theft Auto 5 off PC.
Despite the claims, Intel believes that GTA 5 will make the transition to PC sooner rather than later.
"Somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive," Intel's Chris R Silva told PC Gamer.
"At least with Grand Theft Auto I don't think it'll be console exclusive very long.
"But that's what happens when you have a brand new launch with two companies that have lots of money trying to make sure they have content."
Silva also believes that keeping Halo as a console exclusive for so long hurt the franchise, and that the PC ecosystem is growing stronger.
"The PC gaming ecosystem just continues to grow," Silva continued.
"If you look at the amount of revenue that is generated by PC gaming it's in the tens of billions of dollars each year. It's incredibly diverse and rich and that's its greatest strength."

i believe this is much more the case globally than "we're peeing our pants at piracy".
Rockstar always has had delayed PC releases.
Rockstar always has had delayed PC releases.
I just hope that it would be properly done though.
It's more that Rockstar always releases on the Console first and the PC a few months later.
I'd also much more prefer if more dedication was put towards one platform at a time.
I mean, it wasn't like the wait for a PC release hurt sales. They made a billion fucking dollars.

They can only keep using that excuse for so long. I think intel is right and someone is paying R* to stay on console.

Microsoft if anyone. They have a habit of doing it.

Sony and microsoft?
I wouldn't be surprised at all. After all MS paid R* 50 million bucks to keep timed exclusivity on IV Episodes.
I see a lot of believes there and a lack of "here is some evidence of this"
I don't know, maybe it's actually harder to release the game on PC rather than on consoles. You have to make the game work on the widest number of configurations for PC (nvidia/ati cards for example). When you release a game on console, it's just one unique system that your game has to run on, way easier imo.
I think Max Payne 3 had a month delay for its PC release from the console release, didn't it?
Makes a lot more sense than "lol hot coffee" or "lol piracy", not even talking about "porting takes time". Yeah right, how do those "other" companies manage cross-platform releases... might be magic. Given the time GTAIV took to be release on PC, they really didn't spend it all on optimisation and actual porting, right.

Sony technically has a lot more reason for doing it considering they made a limited edition PS3 for GTAV's release. Since MS didn't make one and the most common gripe about the Xbox is the paywall, Anyone without a console that wants to play GTAV could've just bought the GTA Bundle because it would end up being about 100 dollars cheaper to buy the PS3 Bundle vs a 360 with a copy of the game. Keep in mind that the lower costing 360s have about 4gb of memory and you need like 8 GB just to play the game (because it has to be installed to the hard drive.) So in order to buy a Xbox 360 with the game you would've needed to spend $300+ just to play the game. For the PS3, it's only about $270 and you don't even need to worry about having to buy the game because it comes with the console.

Sony used to do the same for the GTA III era games.

You wont get any evidence as it's pretty clear both MS and Sony put a bit into R*'s back pocket but again, R* doesn't have a speedy release pattern for PC ports unless its Max Payne but that was developed for the PC then ported to the rest.
People who can't wait will buy it for console and after it gets released to PC they will buy it again.
Double the sales.

Yeah this "Oh it takes time, because PCs are more complicated" is BS. IV was delayed for 8 months and it was unoptimized as hell.
With those sales, I don't think anyone can afford to pay them off much longer.

Hypothetic counter-argument:
see that wasn't even enough, they need twice that! :v:
EuroGamer says it will get on PC early 2014

It's a more complex process, that costs more money. But it's not harder.

"if anyone"
Microsoft owns Windows, so at least they'd get something out of it. Sony on the other hand has nothing to win by having GTA V on PC. But Sony would never use these kinds of business tactics, right?
Chances are both Sony and Microsoft are paying Rockstar, if anything.
probably durring the xbone release... i mean whomever payed for it to be exclusive has gotten their fill already

this was the case for the past versions but the version they toted around at all the game shows was the next-gen version which runs completely on standard PC hardware
"We'll pay you a lot of money if for a while your game runs exclusively on a toaster that runs videogames"
"Deal!"
Well Intel is an expert on paying people large sums of money for dubious reasons in the past.
R* is pretty bad to accept bribes like this, if this turns out to be true
It's a more complex process, that costs more money. But it's not harder.
"more complex process", "costs more money" is kinda equal to "harder". Your playing with the words there, I think you get the idea.
I could definitely see Sony and Microsoft paying to keep it on consoles. And I don't think it's terribly far fetched to assume the money they would pay combined would be a bit more than anything R* could get from total PC sales, which definitely makes it more lucrative for a business to forego a PC launch.
This is kinda worrying.
yeah it's called timed exclusivity, it's been around for ages yo
PC is a huge market, and microsoft and sony recognize that. They'll team up if it means they both get better sales.
