MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Madison County couple is facing a number of charges after police say they packed their bags and left their Richmond home without their kids.
Both appeared in court Wednesday morning. Melodie Massengale and Larry Gray are each charged with abandoning a minor and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to their arrest citations, the couple left Massengale's 14-year-old son and Gray's six-month-old son at their home on Big Hill Avenue in February. Police say the two took off in the middle of the night with their TV, an Xbox gaming system and a computer, among other things.
Police say there was no food in the refrigerator and no sheets on the beds. When the teenager woke up, he and the baby were able to get to their grandmother's house. The two parents were arrested in Lexington about a week later.
Both Massengale and Gray made a quick appearance in court Wednesday morning. Both waived their preliminary hearings. They're both in the Madison County Detention Center. The next step is for a grand jury to hear the couple's charges and choose whether or not to indict them.
horrid parenting 101; sadly doesn't even sound like these parents even want their kids
An optimist might say they didn't mean to forget them, but considering the parents didn't even bother to remember them over the course of a week, seems they're just flatout assholes.
These parents' priorities sure are straight.
how the fuck you can forget your kids
they're not exactly the most unnoticeable thing
unless it's on purpose then wow
This isn't 'forgetting about your kids', this is straight up parental abandonment.
Go fuck yourselves.
You know.
If you don't want kids, like at all. Just get a vasectomy, or wear a fucking condom.
Then less of this crap can happen.

But that would often be too much effort for some people, who couldn't be arsed to do so in the first place. Sad, but it is how it is, and you can't fix that quite so easy.
When in your life do you wake up and just decide you don't want to look after your children anymore?
I can't imagine how the teens life must be. If they're willing to just abandon they're kids i can't imagine a warm and loving environment.

I can't see any possible way any sane couple could leave home during the night with their possessions but without their children and it be a mistake
There's no way they forgot them, it's pure abandonment
Thread title made it seem like they were forgotten, but it's clearly abandonment.
My question, though, is how do people like this think they're going to get away with it? They apparently live close to relatives and it's not like kids can't talk. It just boggles my mind how straight-up dumb some people are. I can't imagine being unable to think these things through. Not to mention how childish of a move it is; packing up your video games and TV and leaving is the kind of running away that a kid would do. Sounds like these people didn't have great parents themselves, because they clearly haven't grown up.

Maybe with the extra kid they realized how much money kids really cost, or they got fed up with being parents despite having a preteen, and a newborn. I would say they were probably panicking young adults, but there's the fact that there is a 14 year old here.
Also no doubt this shit is gonna fuck up the preteen.
some people just decide that they don't want their kids anymore.
they might feel inadequate or something. like they couldn't take care of them properly.
or they might just feel like the kids ruined their life, and they want it back.
who knows. some people should simply never be parents.
I don't know how to cynically plug in a comment about how this reminds me of all those batshits that state that gay marriage is bad because every kid deserves a loving environment with a mother and father when things like this happen all the time, but without sounding that yeah maybe even abusive gay parents could be a thing too, but then it really comes down to just any kind of combination of parents can suck regardless, so we shouldn't think that combinations change that, but then also not trying to sound too distant from feeling sympathetic to these kids, because they're going through a stressful time that I understand, but without also feeling too lengthy?
Yeah like that.
Reminds me of that song, "The Way" by Fastball.

And they couldn't find 'em
They left before the sun came up that day
They just drove off and left it all behind 'em
But where were they going without ever knowing the way?

Xbox gaming system
The Xbox is a gaming system?

Just like the ouya
But why do you ask?
Yeah...that was not a mistake.

I don't know, but it doesn't even seem relevant to the article and it sounds like you're trying to shoehorn your views into this thread.

That's the sad part...
Fuck these parents.
Fuck every parent like them.
They could have just disowned them and put them up for adoption, I mean that isn't exactly that hard and it isn't illegal.
