Artist Logithx posted these three shots to the Polycount forums on Tuesday, showing City 17 from Half-Life 2 more lifelike than ever. And these shots were rendered in Unreal Engine 3 — not Unreal 4, which just became available to developers.
"I'm working every day to port this to the new Unreal Engine 4 but as I mentioned in my original post there's lots of work that was unfinished," he writes, "not to mention that I have to redo all the materials and many textures because of the awesome physically-based shading in Unreal Engine 4."
HL2 usually looks fine to me but this makes me realise how old it is

I'm getting lates and I don't know why!
Hl2 remake in U4 would be sick though
HL2 usually looks fine to me but this makes me realise how old it is
It'll be 10 years this year
someones going to use these images for a "Leak" on source 2

Maybe because this is old news?

I saw this already in the UE4 thread few days ago.
HL2 was still one of the first 3D games that will never look outlandishly dated though imo. This image shows how far we've come but HL2 still looks acceptable ten years on, whereas most games from the late 90s/early 2000s look massively dated

Maybe we'll see Episode 3 this year, or Half Life 3.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. Outstanding facial animation aside, Half-Life 2 looks and feels VERY dated now in my opinion.

Vanilla hl2 yes, but with some hi-res mods it still looks pretty decent

It was just posted today, and was never in headlines.

with epilepsy inducing bloom, blue cc and a dirt in the eyes filter you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

It looks dated, but its dated more gracefully then say, Deus Ex.
Bet we can get a half life 2 remake in the Unreal Engine before half life 3 comes out.

I saw it on Valvetime on Facebook about the same time

*that aren't FakeFactory
Does anyone else think the OP image looks like HL2 beta/concept art? It has a kind of dirty feel that wasn't there as much in the final game, perhaps due to graphics limitations
Looks really nice

I like fakefactorys environment textures, but his replacement textures for main characters gave me cancer
Too bad his packs are fucking enormous for no good reason. You could halve the size and there would probably be a negligible difference in quality.

There isn't enough scaffolding in this photo.
I'm not sure I'd go that far. Outstanding facial animation aside, Half-Life 2 looks and feels VERY dated now in my opinion.
what I feel is the most dated with HL2 is the amount of props in one level. it feels very empty.
regarding facial animations, I'm really surprised there are so few games with proper facial animation even today. the games I've played all have a really weird lipsync for example, except for source games
I'm not sure I'd go that far. Outstanding facial animation aside, Half-Life 2 looks and feels VERY dated now in my opinion.
HL2 is one of the few games I've played with flawless lip synching.
Facial animations are still great, as are the characters, guns, and enemies.
Graphics are honestly the only dated thing about the game, it still holds up after all these years and even then it still has it's awesome moments like leaving the trainstation for the first time and seeing the Citadel looming over the city.
i want to see in motion, pics look too photoshop to me
I bet somewhere down the line, there will be an HD remake of HL2 similar to Black Mesa: Source.
Heck, look at how much potential Source 2 has:

Was that ever ever confirmed legit?
no half life 2 is the best game ever made source engine is the best gabe newell is my god what are you talking about
its been over 8 years since a "new" source engine, gabe is probably making the same thing in the new source engine that he confirmed valve to be working on.

I heard they're going to announce it during Nintendo Direct.
