What would it take to green the red planet? For starters, a massive amount of global warming.
Could we “terraform” Mars—that is, transform its frozen, thin-aired surface into something more friendly and Earthlike? Should we? The first question has a clear answer: Yes, we probably could. Spacecraft, including the ones now exploring Mars, have found evidence that it was warm in its youth, with rivers draining into vast seas. And right here on Earth, we’ve learned how to warm a planet: just add greenhouse gases to its atmosphere. Much of the carbon dioxide that once warmed Mars is probably still there, in frozen dirt and polar ice caps, and so is the water. All the planet needs to recapture its salad days is a gardener with a big budget.
Too bad we will never be a part of this.
I feel a strange longing to be part of this.
Makes you wanna live forever right?
This is exactly what's wrong with only living for about 80-90 years, you miss this kind of shit.
This is what happened in Red Faction.
I'm not entirely sure how they intend to solve the mostly none-existent atmosphere.
Until we fuck everything up and move on to the next rock in space.
Sunrise;Sunset.

I don't really want to live after all my relatives and friends died.
I fucking hope 'I' get to live again. Not me specifically, but to be in control of another life, like i am this one. I came out of nowhere though, so i guess i can go into nowhere :( *depression*

Mars is already fucked, no harm in just fixing it for a while.

Now imagine if you had that kind of attitude in the dark ages.
Don't be so melodramatic. We have lived and will continue to live during a time of incredible scientific prosperity. We are living in an exponential time. What was top of the line technology 15 years ago is beyond obsolete today.
If you want more reassurance, go look at the cool futuristic stuff thread.

I don't think they can pump a thousand milibars of CO2 into the atmosphere.

It's already there, just frozen.
snip im dumb

Don't get me wrong here, I'm incredibly happy that I was born in '91, I get to see a fuckton of awesome new inventions as they get invented, but when you think about all the things that will come about in the future don't you ever feel sad that you'll never get to see even a fraction of them?
Living on another planet which has been transformed from a desert to a habitable environment is something that i would love to be a part of.
I think you would have to be too careful on Mars, because your would have to wear oxygen masks which means you couldn't run around and have fun because you could run out of oxygen or break your equipment. and it would be cold all the time.

You obviously didn't read the thread.

But you're on MARS. FUCK THAT IS AWESOME!
yeah man, lets build all that shit and then fuck everything up with nuclear power again.
Where do I sign up for year zero?
IF THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE MARS. THEN THEY BETTER MAKE A DIEING CURE SO YOU CAN'T DIE. SO WE DON'T GET TO MISS OUT. /caps for awesome times.

How did this:
If they are going to make mars. They should make a pill that makes you not die. So we don't miss out.
Al Gore & co disagree :v:.
Will not work. Mars doesn't have enough gravity to hold an atmosphere for longer and stable times.

Titan has an atmosphere.

Again? Please elaborate.

Make new friends, stop crying about everything, son.
It's not like it will mentally affect you since you live forever!

Oh god, Tina...
Then I should correct myself.
He doesn't have enough gravity to hold a breathable atmosphere.
