• Chile miners: Family joy as rescue capsule arrives
A cage specially built to help rescue 33 men trapped underground in a mine in Chile has arrived at the mine head. The steel capsule will be used to pull the men to safety one by one, once a rescue shaft wide enough to haul them up has been drilled. Relatives of the miners were allowed to get into the narrow cage, which is little more than 50cm (20in) wide. It is expected to take between 20-30 minutes to pull each miner up from their shelter at a depth of 700m. The long - and extremely narrow - steel case has been named Phoenix, and its designers hope it will lift the men to a new life overground much like the bird in Greek mythology rose from the ashes. Relatives of the miners, who have been camped out at the mine head since the men were trapped after a rockfall more than seven weeks ago, clapped when the rescue capsule was unveiled.
am i the only person whos really curious as to what they do down there all day?
:gooncamp:
I'm not much in the know about this, what caused the collapse in the first place?
am i the only person whos really curious as to what they do down there all day?
they work. on anything that needs to be worked on. like mining, laundry, keeping check on food/water... everyone has a job down there. they talked about that in another article posted here
is there a toilet or something
They should've had actors dressed in Planet of the Apes costumes rescue them
I'm not much in the know about this, what caused the collapse in the first place?
Gravity.
Egads, after being stuck in a dark, confined space for this long the only way out is to spend another half hour in a dark, confined space smaller than your average casket. :wtc:
They should've had actors dressed in Planet of the Apes costumes rescue them
Everyone else saw that joke too.
I can't wait to see the movie that is made of this.
I can't wait to see the movie that is made of this.
"33 men...sit in a hole"
is there a toilet or something
There is a shelter down there for such accidents.
Hours later, cameras used in the probe into the mine made contact with the miners, taking the first images of the trapped workers.[23] The miners had a 50 square meter shelter with two long benches,[24] but ventilation problems had led them to move out to a tunnel.[25] In addition to the shelter, they had some 2 km of galleries in which to move around.[12] The miners used backhoes to dig for trapped water.[26] Some water was obtained from the radiators of vehicles inside the mineshaft.[12] Health officials are running tests on the water.[12] Food supplies were limited, and the men may have lost 8 to 9 kg (17-20 pounds) each.[25] Although the emergency supplies were intended for only two or three days, the miners rationed them to last for 17 days until contact with the surface.[27] They consumed "two little spoonfuls of tuna, a sip of milk and a biscuit every 48 hours" and a morsel of peach.[12][26] They used the batteries of a truck to power their helmet lamps.[25]

am i the only person whos really curious as to what they do down there all day?
Are you kidding?!? Poop disposal alone, for 33 men being well fed three meals a day AND being pumped with vitamins, should be enough to keep the ones awake but not pooping busy. So you have three groups: sleepers, poopers, and those on poop detail. Imagine the hours they spend on arguments over these arrangements. "why am I always on poop detail after Mario eats? He poops like an elephant."
I'm more curious what happens to them after they get out. Do you go back to mining? Fat government stipend? World's most pre-publicized class action lawsuit? Maybe one of them runs for President of the world or something.
And then they all die due to hypersensitivity to light.

Seriously these guys are awesome.
Woah. That's amazing. 17 days without any knowledge if there'd be any rescue, and they just took it calmly like pros.
They knew there was a rescue.

I am pretty sure they would gladly get inside that capsule.

Shit will be scary.
So the last guy will be in a dark room, 700m underground, all by himself for 30 minutes? Shit will be scary.
I'm sure he'll be eaten by the rocks
So the last guy will be in a dark room, 700m underground, all by himself for 30 minutes? Shit will be scary.
Yeah, imagine all that's going on in a guy's mind in that position. After days and nights buried thousands of feet underground, little noises and rumbles that were easy to ignore because you're surrounded by thirty two other guys suddenly become ominous. You start getting paranoid, you start thinking "what if they leave me here?", all the fears you were repressing are unleashed...and you have no one there to lean on. I think it's certain these guys will have mental health issues for years after this. Post traumatic whatever, and so on. That's not even counting if some crazy shit is happening and/or has happened(killing and eating someone in those first 17 days for instance). I'm expecting they will first be reunited with family, then head for medical care that includes psych care and evaluation. Then some kind of counseling, to get them ready to return to their lives. I think a tv appearance will happen at that point, all of them together again, talking over their time in there and how they feel now. Lastly, a movie deal. Then it's all about living their lives with whatever new opportunities, like money and jobs, that they get out of this experience. As the years go by and they get busted for various typical crap people get busted for, they'll always know it'll be worldwide news- "Former Chilean trapped miner arrested for beating wife".
What's with you people and writing long, drawn out, and dramatic little stories
I'm not much in the know about this, what caused the collapse in the first place?
Every time you masturbate, a mine collapses. :cop:
It's going to be a bitch to see the sun after being underground for 2 months. Even with lamps and lighting with in the caves.
What's with you people and writing long, drawn out, and dramatic little stories
At the end of a long day of posting, Tetracycline gazed upon the screen and began typing, "what's with you people and writing long, drawn out, and dramatic little stories". Upon hitting submit his neckbeard glistened with anticipation as well as sweat. "This will get me agree ratings FOR SURE!" he exclaimed while getting up and making his way to the refrigerator for a ninth pizza pocket.
